developing world through the application of insect sciences.
Employing more than 500 national and international staff, icipe is headquartered in Nairobi, Kenya with outposts in Ethiopia and on the shores of Lake Victoria in western Kenya.

crucial contributions to African food and health policy, delivered development outcomes to rural communities, and has been at the forefront of building Africa’s biological research capacity.
The Centre’s research activities span the African continent with partnerships linking research organisations, not only across Africa, but also the globe.
In addition, more than 100 graduate students and a number of postdoctoral fellows contribute to icipe’s research portfolio annually.
The position holder will manage the field activities of the projects. He/she will also ensure research data are of high quality and documented for detailed statistical analyses.
Specific Duties
The successful candidate will be expected to:
Assist in conducting field and laboratory experiments as prescribed by scientist(s) within icipe scientific procedures and guidelines, collecting and recording data of scientific research;
Participate in the design and implementation of field studies;
Supervise junior technical staff;
Assist in designing data collection tools, questionnaires and data collection templates;
Coordinate data collection, data entry, data validation;
Ensure data management quality assurance at all stages from data collection to generation of data analysis datasets;
Generate timely data progress reports for monitoring study progress;
Provide technical guidance and oversight to other technical staff in data entry and
management;
Monitor use of supplies and expendables and ensure that they are requested for in good time.
Requirements/Qualifications
BSc in biological sciences. MSc in natural/earth sciences will be preferred.
At least 3 years’ experience as Research Assistant and Data Analyst, with demonstrable experience in managing complex data sets.
Core Competencies
Good biological background.
Data handling and statistical skills.
Good computer skills.
Handling ecological data.
Familiarity with open data platforms.

Must be self-motivated and able to work independently with minimal supervision.
Fast thinking and able to solve day-to-day research challenges in a practical manner.
Maintains frequent contact with scientists and other technical staff for exchange of information.
A team player with ability to maintain harmonious working relationship in a multi-cultural and multi-racial environment.
Reporting
This position reports to the Principal Investigator.
