icipe seeks to recruit a Business Support Officer II-Software Developer (Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central) in Information Technology Unit.

The position is tenable in Nairobi at the icipe Duduville campus.

This is a two-year contract, renewable subject to continued position needs, funding for the position, and performance of the staff member.

This is a nationally recruited position.

Overall Purpose of the Job

The Software Developer’s primary responsibility is to carry out all configuration and development activities to the
company’s Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central system.

In addition to this, the Software Developer will be required to analyze and contribute to functional specifications provided by business users and produce technical
specifications in line with agreed standards.

The primary focus will be Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central development, with additional activities using SQL and .NET, and creating integrations to Microsoft Dynamics 365
Business Central.

The Software Developer is involved at each stage of the software development lifecycle, from helping to assess the feasibility of an identified business requirement, through documentation, development, testing and delivery.

They shall be required to write code to create software, modify the software to correct bugs, and adapt it to new hardware.

The Software Developer is responsible for importing and exporting data from Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central to a number of other applications and taking a proactive approach to streamlining systems processes and performance.

This is a new implementation and presents a fantastic opportunity to join early in the life of a Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central system.

Specific Duties

The Successful Candidate will be Expected to:

▪ Configure, develop and deliver Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central software and components in all
functional areas.
▪ Create new and modify existing customizations and integrations as requested by the business.

▪ Perform data conversions, debug system problems, and craft resolutions.
▪ Installation and implementation of service packs and hot fixes as needed.
▪ Technical liaison to business groups for application support.
▪ Test functionality developed by the development team against business requirements.
▪ Support and

drive process change and communication in line with Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business
Central best practice.
▪ Coordinate and contribute to end-user training including development of system documentation and training
materials.
▪ Assist with functional specifications of customizations and integrations required for Microsoft Dynamics 365
Business Central implementations.
▪ Provide pre-go-live and post-go-live end-user support.
▪ Serve as the lead Microsoft Dynamics technical expert on the development team.
▪ Take responsibility for the customized unit programming and overall system functionality.
▪ Work with the Project Managers, Business Analyst and Consultants to understand the business/application
requirements of the assigned task.
▪ Take responsibility for delivering development tasks within agreed budgets and timelines.
▪ Creation of technical documentation for all customizations and integrations.
▪ Any other tasks as reasonably require.
Requirements/Qualifications
▪ Bachelor of Science in Computer Science or a related field.
▪ Microsoft Dynamics NAV Windows client and Web client development experience.
▪ Fluent in a variety of other programming languages.
▪ Familiar with software engineering fundamentals.
▪ At least 5 years of work experience in a relevant area.
▪ Experience working on various software development projects and demonstrable contribution to at least three
ERP implementations.
▪ Knowledge of software development life cycle.
▪ Ability to complete development of applications and develop unit testing of coded components.

This position reports to the Information Technology Manager.
