ICARDA Research Officer Jobs in Addis Ababa Ethiopia
The International Center for Agricultural Research in the Dry Areas (ICARDA) seeks to hire a Research Officer for its Resilient Agricultural Livelihood Systems (RALS) program of ICARDA who will support various on-going projects in East and North Africa. The Research Officer will work under the supervision of the Socioeconomics Team Leader and provide scientific research and project support to the RALS program. The position is based in Addis Ababa with frequent travel to different regions with in Ethiopia and project countries in the regions.
The International Center for Agricultural Research in the Dry Areas (ICARDA) is an international autonomous, non-profit, research organization temporarily based in Beirut, Lebanon supported by the Consultative Group on International Agricultural Research (CGIAR). ICARDA is committed to the improvement of livelihoods of the resource-poor in dry areas by enhancing food security and alleviating poverty through agricultural research, and the equitable use of natural resources.
Key Responsibilities:
Research support responsibilities:
Designing surveys and associated instruments;
Implement farm household, market and consumer surveys and collect and manage secondary data;
Conduct regular field visits to supervise data collection and follow-up with partners;
Data entry, cleaning and management of survey
data;
Locate, assemble and analyze secondary data relevant for socioeconomics and policy research;
Conduct multivariate econometric analyses of data using statistical software;
Assist in managing and updating existing integrated databases on farm production, household risk perception and awareness, stakeholder contacts, changing livelihood strategies, poverty, markets and marketing.
Minimum Requirements:
Education:
At least BSc degree or MSc degree in Agricultural Economics or related discipline from a recognized university
Experience:
Minimum of five years’ relevant experience for BSc degree or three years of relevant work experience for MSc degree
