Job DescriptionIAK Agrar Consulting GmbH is a German agricultural consulting company with almost 40 years of experience in the field of consulting in the agriculture and rural development sectors in Germany and abroad.
Since 1981 we have been implementing agricultural projects in developing and emerging countries on behalf of Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH, the German Federal Ministry of Food and Agriculture (BMEL), EU, World Bank and other public and private clients in more than 30 countries worldwide.
We are currently planning to submit a bit for a GIZ tender.
The project “Technical cooperation with Federal Republic of Ethiopia” aims at laying the methodological and legal foundations for future land consolidation procedures.
The responsible authorities shall be prepared for being able to plan and prepare land consolidation procedures independently.
For this reason, the capacities of staff at relevant national and regional authorities as well as civil society organisations will be strengthened.
The contractor will be responsible for the following outputs:
Output 1: Methods and approaches for awareness-raising and preparation phases for land consolidation procedures as well as voluntary land exchange in pilot areas have been tested;
Output 2: Skills of employees of the responsible authorities and private service providers have been strengthened.
Selected Tasks
Actively participate in meetings with local stakeholders and project beneficiaries to explain the project approach;
Elaborate with ALAUB and local partners an infrastructure demand assessment in the pilot areas, based on the needs after land consolidation;
Make technical proposals on the type, design and size of
infrastructure measures (rehabilitation of road sections; construction of dirt / gravel roads; small-scale irrigation systems; erosion control measures to prevent gully erosion; drainage structures; small storages for agricultural produces);
Prepare design plans for each of the measures proposed including Bills of Quantity (BOQs) and cost estimates;
Oversee the preparation of fine designs (where necessary or approriate) by architects or engineers hired as short-term experts;
Elaborate tender documents for sub-contractors who will construct the small-scale infrastructure measures;
Monitor the work of sub-contractors hired for the construction of the infrastructure Seite 2/2 measures;
Coordinate all infrastructure measures closely with relevant GIZ units;
Carry out the final inspection together with the persons in-charge from GIZ and the regional administration;
Coordinate with and advise short-term experts hired by the contractor for specific infrastructure tasks;
Provide input and assistance to project M&E, reporting and administration
Job Requirements
Qualifications and skills
The expert needs to be a registered engineer with the relevant professional body (minimum requirement):
Education/training
Postgraduate university degree in civil engineering;
General professional experience: 10 years of professional experience in rural infrastructure;
Specific professional experience: Track record for work related to construction of small-scale infrastructure in the rural context such as small-scale irrigation, erosion control measures, rural roads, or similar
