Job purpose: Under the leadership and supervision of the Executive Director One More Day for Children Foundation and the ICL Laikipia County Manager, the Safe house Manager will be in charge of all operations within the safe house and within the sub county.
The incumbent will provide social services and assistance to improve the social and psychological functioning of children and their families and maximize the family well-being and academic functioning of children. They will also assist adolescent mothers, arrange adoptions, and find foster parents for abandoned or abused children. In schools, the incumbent will address such problems as teenage pregnancy, misbehavior, and truancy. They will also advise teachers on how to deal with abused children, orphaned and victims of gender violence.
Key Responsibilities
Project implementation
Work collaboratively with management team to provide seamless services to survivors including participation in the “on call” rotation
Work closely with Executive Director to ensure that the institution’s policies and procedures are in compliance with the mission and vision of the organization as well as all funding contractors’ requirements and best practices within the field
Establishing customer desk whose mandate is to control movement/access in and out of the safe house.
Maintain Safe House facility in clean working order. Alert Executive Director of any service needs to facility
Provide a caring, supportive, empowering, non-judgmental environment for program beneficiaries.
Maintain confidentiality for clients and personnel
Implement and maintain all direct services, program records, statistics, and financial accounting for all grant/donations and other funding sources requirements as well as general organizations requirements;
Coordinate services including social services, legal, medical, educational, and residential as determined by needs
Manage residential program services.
Maintain and ensure safety and operation of facility and all equipment
Maintain cooperative working relationship with all coworkers including volunteers
Compile and consistently review and update Safe House operations manual
Supervision
Supervise all paid staff and volunteers
Conduct regular performance evaluations of paid staff and volunteers
Conduct supervision with each team member on at least a biweekly basis
Provide case management supervision. Review case files and records for appropriate services and recommendations
Community Engagement
Interface professionally and effectively with community individuals and agencies
Build community partnerships through attending appropriate meetings in the community, online, and through community participation
Work collaboratively with community partners
Conduct community outreach, build partnerships, and establish community relationships.
Communication
Keep Executive Director informed of all program, staff, and client developments including concerns, and grievances
Discuss write
ups, disciplinary actions, and performance evaluations with the Executive Director before discussing with staff or volunteer
Inform Executive Director anytime a client is denied service or exited from the program
Desired Education and Training
A Bachelor’s degree in Counseling, Social Work, Teaching, Psychology or a related social science field
At least three years’ experience in counselling and case management or other relevant experience
Experience in program development and implementation; is a strong team leader/player
Experience in training and supervision of staff and volunteers
Certificate of good conduct clearance and public health clearance certificate required
GB Violence/Sexual Assault Victim counselor certification as required by the One More Day for Children Foundation is an added advantage
Valid Driver’s license/Motorcycle License and a clean driving record
Knowledge, Experience Abilities and Skills
Excellent and effective verbal and written communication skills
Excellent interpersonal and public speaking skills with ability to work effectively with diverse groups
Passionate about One More Day for Children(OMDC) Foundation mission and able to promote and communicate the philosophy, mission and values of OMDC to external and internal stakeholders.
Thorough knowledge of the various aspects of physical, sexual and emotional violence and survivors’ and children’s issues
The ability to relate to individuals and groups of different abilities and cultures in an empathetic, non-judgmental manner
Ability to initiate and manage Income Generating Activities
Ability to manage teenage girls
Excellent interpersonal and people management skills
Excellent command of computers with high IT efficiency
Ability to set and maintain appropriate boundaries
Ability to address crises and problem-solve effectively
Ability to manage residential program and mobilize/fund raise for the Safe houses activities
