Background HIV testing during emergency care is an opportunity to reach persons that are not well engaged with HIV Testing Services (HTS) in other settings and provides particularly good access to young adults, men and key populations, which are priority groups for testing and HIV self-testing (HIVST) initiatives.
The planned research will be a pilot implementation science study completed at a single site at Kenyatta National Hospital in Nairobi, Kenya.
The research will evaluate the impacts and utility of enhanced HTS and HIVST programming within the Accident and Emergency department (A&E).
The research will enroll and follow both patients and healthcare providers as participants and gather data overtime on multiple outcomes pertaining to HTS metrics and operational aspects.
The results will be used to inform future research and public health initiatives designed to increase HIV testing and treatment among populations commonly missed by conventional HIV programming in other A&E settings.
Job Purpose To help study nurses with screening and linkage of patients potentially interested in HTS/HIVST to the VCT personnel for services.
This will be done throughout the A&E time course and at all locations.
Position Duties and Responsibilities Act as a link between the study team and HTS counsellors
Provide HTS and HIVST information for interested patients in the A&E Navigate through with ease at all HIV service provision points within the A&E
Maintain familiarity with the protocol and standard operation procedures of the study
Knowledge in working with the community, linkage and referral component
Meet the agreed targets
Any other work-related responsibility as
delegated
by his or her supervisor.
Education Background
Minimum O-Level
Certificate in Voluntary counselling and testing is an added advantage Experience in social work and research projects will be an added
advantage Willingness to work as a team player
Ability to work with minimal supervision
Ability to maintain flexible work hours, including occasional nights and weekends, in order to interface with key populations and international partners
Desirable Qualities, Skills and Abilities
A person who upholds Confidentiality
Be a team player with good interpersonal skills
Computer literate for documentation and report writing
Creativity and innovation highly encouraged
Experience working with key populations (particularly PWID) is desirable.
Please note that the appointment is two months (2 months) at approximately 40 hours per week with variable work hours
