Job DescriptionHope for Korah (HFK) is a non-profit charity registered in British Columbia, Canada under BN #856425780BC0001. And currently it is registered as a foreign organization with certificate no 4462 by the agency for civil society organizations of Ethiopia in 23rd September, 2019.
The vision of Hope for Korah (HFK) is to support relief and development work that acts towards breaking the cycle of poverty for those living in urban settings in Ethiopia. Hope for Korah seeks to strengthen families to prevent them from disintegrating and breaking apart due to the harsh realities of extreme poverty. Our desire is to keep families healthy and together.
The organization executes its planned activities to achieve its goal through employing well equipped, passionate and experienced Health Program Officer who have the talent to work with needy women and their family.
As a member of a collaborative team, the Health program officer will oversee & work alongside impoverished individuals and towards improving their health status, helping to create, implement and monitor well oriented personal and environmental health understanding and preventive health behavior. These responsibilities will be carried out using a holistic approach that considers each beneficiary’s physical, mental, psychological & social well-being.
The goal is to help beneficiaries achieve healthy mental and physical status with disease preventive attitude and behavior. The Health Program Officer will provide leadership to the social work team and will work collaboratively with other program staff to provide training, support and empowerment to impoverished individuals. The Health Program Officer reports to the HFK Ethiopia Country Director.
Duties and Responsibilities of the EmployeeThe responsibilities for this position fall under three key areas;
Health Education, Basic Awareness Creation and Assessment
Health Care Institution Networking, Follow Up
Management & Coordination of health Program
Health Education, Basic Awareness Creation and Assessment Responsibilities:
Conduct ongoing assessment of the health situation of individuals and the community of “korah” in general and identify educational and knowledge gaps and forward recommended action plan to address those identify gaps.
Plan, organize and execute consistent health education activities in response to the assessment.
Overall responsibility for the planning, organizing, managing of the budget, reporting & implementing of health education and different assessment.
Conduct regular hygiene, family planning, and nutrition education for beneficiaries.
Lead and provide technical guidance, supervision & supper to elders care takers and cooks of the feeding program the day care staff.
Collect, organize and adopt different health education materials and posters.
Health Care Institution Networking, Collaboration, and Individual Beneficiary Medical Care Follow Up
Create clear understanding of the
health insurance system to the beneficiaries and organize discussion once a quarter to assess how the system is working.
Follow up the proper renewal of the health insurance for all the sponsored families and CSP beneficiaries.
Arrange a standard way of referring and refunding for laboratory and other prescribed tests, medication and other health care expenses which are not available in government health centers.
Develop clear follow up for chronic illness with special focus on HIV/ AIDS, leprosy, hypertensions need and other.
Ensure that all health support provided for each beneficiary maintains & respects that beneficiary’s need, rights and dignity.
Management & Coordination of Health Program
Provide direction and leadership to HFK health team
Arrange regular tem meeting with team to discuss challenge cases, share knowledge and resources, support ones another, and to brainstorm ways to the program and address the diverse health needs of the families.
Attend monthly HFK team/staff meeting with the HFK Ethiopian Country Director and key leadership team member such as socioeconomic Empowerment Program Officer Education & Youth Empowerment Officer, and Administration & Finance Manager.
The Senior Nurse will report on any major health program or individual beneficiary Health related concerns that are identified will report to the country director.
The Senior Nurse is also responsible to organize report on the regular program of the health intervention and successes and important updates to be submitted to the government, HFK head quarter and the leadership team.
Performs other duties as may be required.

Job Requirements
Education and Experience
Bachelor’s degree in Public Health, Clinical Nursing, and related field.
Three years relevant work experience
Proficiency in both English and Amharic is mandatory
Skills, Attitudes and Attributes
Good Communication and Interpersonal skills
Ability to make logical and timely decisions
Program Coordination, planning, and continuous assessment skills
Ability to compile case assessment reports
Program leadership
