The Henry M. Jackson Foundation Medical Research International (HJFMRI) provides scientific, technical and programmatic support services to global medical research programs. HJFMRI in collaboration with The Walter Reed Project, HIV Program-Kericho carries out HIV / AIDS vaccine and therapeutic research, and with PEPFAR supports HIV prevention, care and
treatment programs in South Rift Valley.
HJFMRI / Walter Reed Project- Kericho is seeking to fill the above position.
Job Summary:
The Pharmacist is a working professional who will report to the Pharmacist of Record at the
Clinical Research Centre (CRC) and assist with research pharmacy operations and activities
as stipulated in the protocols to ensure adherence to the set requirements by sponsors,
applicable laws, policies and ethical considerations.
In addition, would assist with guiding the
research team across all clinical trials on pharmaceutical expertise in management of study
participants; and advise the site on current approved drugs and commodities for use and
changes of pharmacy guidelines.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Assist with all research pharmacy operations and perform the day to day research
pharmacy activities per individual protocols.
Provide pharmaceutical expertise in the management of patients enrolled in the protocols both at the in- and out-patient clinics.
Facilitate study drugs importation by making application of import permits and follow up on clearing of drugs at customs.
Provide patient medication care including adherence counseling, monitoring of patient
progress and medication response, including adverse events and their management.
Train pharmacy and other clinic staff on all protocol related and general standard operating procedures linked to the pharmacy operations.
Facilitate Infection Control-Implementation of practices and procedures that prevent
contamination and cross contamination of study products.
Temperature monitoring and documentation for all pharmacy storage areas (lockers,
fridges and freezers
both in pharmacy and freezer farm.) to preserve the integrity,
stability, and effectiveness of study products for each protocol.
Study product control which includes ordering, receiving, storage, accountability,
inventory, dispensing, drug returns, and drug destruction.
Pharmacy related protocol document retention, archiving, and destruction according to the laid down procedures by DAIDS and other non-network sponsors
Provide patient education with regards to medication effects, dosages and routes of
administration.
Any other relevant duties assigned by the supervisor.
Job Requirements and Qualifications:
Bachelor of Pharmacy Degree (B Pharm) from an institution recognized by the Pharmacy
and Poisons Board.
Successfully completed one (1) year Internship from a recognized institution
Registered and licensed by the Pharmacy and Poisons Board
Excellent communication skills (verbal and written) in English and Kiswahili
Good understanding and experience on HIV/AIDS, TB care and treatment and other
opportunistic infections.
Competence in computer operations
Terms of Employment: 1-year renewable contract. The first three months will be
probation period.
