Purpose of the consultancy and specific objectives
The purpose of this consultancy is to undertake a detailed review and analysis of the tools, processes, and practices that are currently deployed towards training of GALS champions in Kenya by Hivos East Africa and other development partners that use the methodology.
Some of the aspects that will to be investigated are:
What tools exist for use in training and use of GALS in Kenya?
How do these methodologies compare of contract with those that are used in the region? (Uganda, Tanzania)
How adaptive are the tools as currently used in relation to context? Including such aspects as Culture, Language, Literacy level etc.
What quality assurance mechanisms exist (If at all) to ensure quality delivery of the GALS Training modules?
Who undertakes training of the champions? And what curriculum is used for the trainings? How are the trainers/trainers certified?
What strategies are employed between the different champions in Outreach and promoting the use of the GALS methodology?
Are the current modules and related materials appropriate for use and effective in delivering training for Champions?
Scope of the assignment
The scope for the consultancy will include but not limited to:
Develop and design relevant tools to undertake the assignment.
Scope the respondents and undertake appropriate sampling.
Pre-Test the tools.
Undertake field data collection.
Undertake cleaning and analysis of the data.
Validate findings and Share draft report.
Presentation and dissemination of final report to Hivos and other project stakeholders.
Qualifications of the consultant
Minimum of a post graduate degree in Social Sciences preferably in, Gender,/policy, development, community development. Demonstrated skills in undertaking research assignments and adult
learning are will be an added advantage.
Minimum of 8 years’ of progressive experience in Research and data collection and analysis.
A working knowledge of training models .
A working knowledge of Gender Analysis.
A working knowledge of lobbying and advocacy.
Fluency in English is a must.
Excellent presentation and report writing skills.
Professional qualification of the consultant, attach CV.
A reliable and effective analyst with extensive experience in conducting analyses and proven record of delivering professional results.
Experienced with non-formal, participatory learning approaches and preferably have experience with implementation.
How to Apply
Interested consultants should submit:
1 page cover letter that summarizes capacity to undertake the assignment and commitment to participate in person;
At least 2 pages and a maximum of 4 pages outlining interpretation of terms of reference and methodology to be used;
1 page outlining the proposed schedule of activities/ time frame;
Updated CV for the consultant (s) with clear focus on similar work. This should not exceed 4 pages per consultant;
At least two referees representative of individuals or organization for whom the consultant has previously undertaken similar work (not more than 3 years ago); and
Additionally, the Consultants are required to submit a technical and Financial proposal/Budget for the assignment:
