About Hivos

Hivos is an international organisation that seeks new solutions to persistent global issues.

With smart projects in the right places, we oppose discrimination, inequality, abuse of power and the unsustainable use of our planet’s resources.

Counterbalance alone, however, is not enough.

Our primary focus is achieving structural change.

This is why we cooperate with innovative businesses, citizens and their organisations.

We share a dream with them of sustainable economies and inclusive societies.

About training

This new innovative training will target LGBTI activists who will be taken through engaging ways of involving the media in organising.

These will include; getting your message delivered concisely, understanding complex audiences, using reactive situations to the movement’s advantage, understanding integrated communications among other contextual topics.

The intensive three-day workshop, taking place in Nairobi, Kenya from 7-9 May 2019, will build the capacity of LGBTI civil society leaders to engage meaningfully with media representatives.

The workshop will show participants how to structure a media strategy that will get people on side with their campaign and organization. Participants will learn how to create a media strategy using all of the tools available to them in terms of print media, broadcast and social media.

10 media practitioners will have a parallel training on LGBTI rights reporting. On the final day of the training, both LGBTI activists and journalists will come together to attend a joint session.

Detailed information about the journalism course and applications can be found here. See below for application information for the civil society course.
