HIJRA with funding from the UNHCR plans to implement a Protection Program for refugees in Kyangwali settlement (Hoima district) and is now looking for qualified and competent persons to fill the position of BID Assistant to be based in Kyangwali – Hoima District.

HIJRA Best Interest Determination (BID) Assistant Jobs in Uganda

Job Description

The BID Assistant will be instrumental in streamlining and harmonizing the Best Interest Determination(BID) process in HIJRA and to use it as a broader child protection tool with full cooperation between the Community Services Section and the Protection Section. Support from a dedicated BID Assistant in the refugee settlements will greatly enhance the ability of HIJRA to ensure that this casework is done in an expedited manner.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct interviews with refugee children and other members of the family to determine the best interest of the child and complete Best Interest Determination (BID) and, when
    appropriate, Best Interest Assessment (BIA) reports.
  • Conduct home visits with refugee families as part of the BID process.
  • Provide counselling to refugees and refugee children, explaining the BID and BIA processes,
    prospects, and problems involved in the processes.
  • Support the child protection team in the execution of child protection roles.
  • Ensure proper monitoring and follow-up of cases including updating RIMS database and any
    internal monitoring and tracking systems are regularly updated with the necessary events.
  • Implement Child Protection policies, BID and BIA procedures, and existing SOPs (including fraud prevention SOPs) with guidance from respective Community Service, Protection and Resettlement colleagues.
  • Liaise with relevant child protection partners to include all the information available on the child in the BID report.
  • Ensure that BID reports are in compliance with UNHCR protection principles as well as best international practice.
  • Oversee the BIA and BID tools for assessing children
  • Follow up on BIA and BID recommendations.
  • Conduct and organize BID panels on a monthly basis and present BIDs

    Qualifications

  • Academic degree in relevant area (e.g. social work, child development, social science,
    education, public administration etc.)
  • Minimum two years’ work experience in relevant work area (e.g. as a social worker, child counsellor, community development worker, educator, conducting social assessments,
    individual case advocacy, assisting with family reunification, working with refugees in a
    resettlement context etc.)
  • Knowledge of the international legal framework governing refugees, asylum seekers, internally displaced persons and statelessness;
  • Awareness of gender issues and how to apply a rights- and community-based approach to
    identify and respond to specific needs;
  • Excellent interviewing and counselling skills especially child interviewing skills-highly desirable.
  • Ability to conduct assessments and identify protection risks of individuals and groups;
  • Understanding of mental and physical development of children as well as International Convention on Child Rights.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively in teams;

    HIJRA Child Protection Assistant Jobs in Uganda

    Job Summary:

    Support activities aimed at ensuring that durable solutions are sought and provided to the largest possible number of persons of concern

    Responsibilities

  • Undertake site and field visits to ensure child protection recreational activities are implemented according to minimum standards and agreement between partners and HIJRA.
  • Contribute to the identification of the most vulnerable individuals and people with special needs according to HIJRA guidelines and Standard Operating Procedures, who meet the agreed vulnerability criteria for the receipt of Cash Assistance, NFI and food Assistance and/or Medical assistance. Special attention will be given to women at risk.
  • Contribute in conducting needs assessments and Focus Group Discussions with the displaced
    and host
    community, particularly the most vulnerable women and children, to identify common protection needs, priorities and existing capacities within the community.
  • Identify vulnerable individuals in accordance with HIJRA criteria and inform the Child Protection Officer in order that s/he can organize case referral to other service providers within the Community Centre or partner NGOs and follow up accordingly.
  • Ensure that all activities are accurately documented and filed in the database.
  • Provide regular feedback to the Child Protection Officer on progress, lessons learned, achievements, gaps, issues and problems.
  • Contribute to the preparation of weekly/monthly plans and reports on activities.
  • Any other duties as may be assigned by the Line Manager

    Qualifications

  • Minimum of Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work, Counseling, Psychology or other related field.
  • At least 3 years of work experience in the same field of development and humanitarian work
    and NGOs.
  • Strong experience working with vulnerable people including survivors of GBV and victims of child abuse.
  • Strong knowledge of Child Friendly interview techniques and communicating with children
  • Familiarity with guidelines on Mental Health and Psychosocial Support in emergency settings.
  • Strong organizational and supervisory skills with excellent reporting & writing skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skill and communication skills.
  • An excellent command of verbal and written English.
  • Good knowledge word and excel.

    HIJRA Child Protection Officer Jobs in Uganda

    Job Summary:

    The Child Protection Officers is responsible for assessing, investigating and managing cases of child abuse and neglect to ensure the wellbeing of children and young people. The role involves working directly with vulnerable children who are at risk of harm or abuse, as well working with their families and carers, to introduce measures to improve family behavior and protect children.

    Responsibilities

  • Prioritize child protection issues and design prevention response programs and initiatives.
  • Provide technical guidance and direction for effective planning, implementation and monitoring of agreed child protection plans including the psychosocial recovery (care) and assistance (legal and social) to vulnerable children and their families
  • Develop training programs and assist in capacity building for staff and partners, possibly in priority thematic areas such as GBV, psychosocial support, child separation, and armed forces/groups
  • Organizing services for children at risk and their families, such as medical and counselling services, referring clients to or conducting family support and parenting programs
  • Liaising with community organizations that provide support services to families

    Qualifications
