In Ethiopia, Swiss Church Aid/ HEKS have country programmes with focus on Natural Resource Management, WASH, Inclusive Markets for Smallholder Pastoralists & Farmers and Humanitarian Assistances for drought and conflict affected communities.
Swiss Church Aid/HEKS is looking for a dynamic, self-motivated Field Office Coordinator for current and future operation in Borana.
Standard function description: Contribute to the implementation and running of specific projects / programmes
Maintain contacts with partner organisations at various levels
Supervise and coach project staff and contribute to appraisals
Contribute to written project reporting, proposals, budgets, and other relevant documents
Provide technical advice to the thematic areas of Market Systems Development/livelihoods, NRM, WASH, etc
Job description
Overseeing and coordinating project implementation
Coordinate humanitarian assistance (when applicable)
Conduct regular field level monitoring visits to project sites on a rolling programme
Prepare monitoring reports
Facilitate capacity building for partners and stakeholders
Assist in preparing detailed work plans/budgets for the projects.
Render timely technical assistance to implementing partners especially in the areas of resilience building, gender mainstreaming, local capacity for peace / Do No Harm/ and participatory project planning methods.
Review progress made towards the proposed work plan as well as the stated objective and results on a quarterly basis.
Assist the organisation in arranging & conducting training, workshops and meetings.
Show good interpersonal skills and a belief in team spirit.
Oversee project progress, reporting, monitoring, evaluation and financial information, especially in respect of cross-cutting issues.
Take a major role in project planning, appraisal, monitoring and evaluation.
Promote knowledge management and networking among HEKS partners and other like-minded NGOs.
Prepare annual
action plan and compile quarterly reports.
Ensure compliance and quality of financial system
Ensure human resource management system is up to standard and facilitating conducive work environment for staffs.
Discharge other responsibilities and assignments given by Country Programme Director
Job Requirements
Minimum qualifications & experience:
University degree, preferably 2nd degree in economics, business management, natural resource management, agriculture or any other related field
At least 5 years’ work experience in a similar field (and 3 years in managerial position) in INGOs
Fluent in written and spoken English
Knowledge of local language (Afan Oromo) is mandatory
Very good understanding of the pastoralist context and their livelihood systems
Good analytical skills
Good computer skills (MS Office)
Technical/Program:
Familiarity with rangeland management and rehabilitation of natural resources
Proven knowledge and experience in market development and value chain analysis (esp. focusing on livestock value chain)
Experience in WASH and related components
Understanding food security and livelihood improvement in the context of dryland ecology
Good experience in early warning and disaster risk reduction strategies
Ability to lead gender sensitive and youth led interventions
Profound knowledge and skills in conflict transformation and do-no-harm approaches
Conviction and proven experience in active community participation (including in decision making) and empowerment of grassroots structures
Managerial:
Experience in working with PCM approach
Engage actively in “facilitating” processes for better results (facilitation skills)
Ability to provide effective coordination following result-based management principles
Well experienced in monitoring and evaluation techniques & processes
Good understanding of resource management and value-for-money principle
Provide coaching and be a positive influence towards other team members
Strategic:
Capable to engage in action-research and evidence based advocacy
Affinity to the customary institutions
Good networker, and explore opportunities for cooperation with others
Able to exchange on best practices and engage on learning activities
