Job Description

Job purpose:

The Assistant Attorney is in charge of overseeing court cases engaged by the company. He/she will safeguard the company reputation by securing that the company strictly follows National laws, regulations and Heineken Business Code of Conduct/policies.

Moreover, he/she is expected to give legal advice to the different functions or management team about all relevant issues.

Key responsibilities

1. Handling Court Cases

Consistently follow up schedule, represent the company on trial hearings, court appearances, and monitor cases related to any judicial organ.

Prepare all documents required to file and defend cases.

Negotiate the company cases favorably and cost-effectively.

Proper Reporting and Documentation of court cases or other legal encounters.

2. Management of internal and external stakeholders

Working closely with Corporate Affairs department on stakeholder’s management.

Communicate and negotiate with external parties (Police, Intellectual property office, external lawyers, Trade and Investment authorities etc.), creating relations of trust.

3. Handling Compliance Issues

Counseling- Communicating with different functions

to learn about their legal needs and concerns and providing them with legal best practice or advice.

Monitor the compliance of Heineken Code of Business Conduct and Policies.

Draft and review contracts, MOU’s or any other agreements, which are necessary to the business.

Apply effective risk management skills and offer proactive advice on possible legal issues.

Staying informed about current legislation and Legal updates that might affect the company’s business

Travel

There will be a high need of travel required for this work, as the job requires the employee to represent the company at various regions of the country. This might reach up to relocation of the employee’s office to Bedele brewery.

Job Requirements

Qualifications and Experience

Education- Bachelor’s degree or above in the field of Law

Experience- 2 years and above proven experience or expertise as a legal counsel, in business environment.

Language- Excellent in Amharic, Oromifa and English languages.
