Health Strat Laboratory Technologist Job in Kenya
Health Strat is an indigenous public health organization incorporated in 2011 specializing in designing and implementing innovative health systems solutions.
Over the last 7 years, Health Strat has registered remarkable success in implementing donor funded health care programs at both the national and county levels.
As a prime and sub recipient of competitive PEPFAR funded grants in HIV and TB service delivery, Health Strat has consistently surpassed performance indicators while institutionalizing best practices in the target facilities.
Responsibilities
Receiving/collecting, labelling and registering specimens.
Sorting out samples and transferring to specific sections for processing and analysis.
Responsible for sample collection/phlebotomy for ART diagnostic and monitoring tests such as CD4, VL, EID.
Responsible for coordination of sample collection, processing and referral as required to external laboratories.
Sample processing for routine tests including: Genexpert testing, urinalysis, stool microscopy, AFB smears, blood sugar testing, malaria microscopy and RDTs
Liaison with the health facility staff to ensure proper collection of samples, packaging and timely delivery of samples from health facility to referral laboratories.
Preparation of reagents and ensuring appropriate usage and storage.
Developing laboratory SOPs, manuals and checklists and review appropriately.
Participate in internal quality assurance (IQC) and external quality assurance (EQA) and institute timely corrective actions for any non-conformity.
Keep custody and tracking of laboratory reagents, supplies and ensuring adequate stock and re-order levels are maintained.
Follow up of results for samples referred to external laboratories and dispatch results to clinician.
Ensure laboratory safety is adhered to and strengthen waste management in the health facility.
Responsible for both routine equipment preventive maintenance and inventory management.
Maintain and file Laboratory records and documents for tests done and
results dispatch.
Maintain records of all samples dispatched to the referral laboratories.
Provide regular laboratory update to the facility/laboratory in charge and program.
Maintain personnel folder in the lab for all trainings, CPDs and CMEs done.
Participate and support the laboratory Accreditation process (SLMTA) for laboratory undergoing accreditation.
Prepare facility monthly commodity consumption and workload reports.
Reports to the laboratory in charge, or facility in charge and Laboratory services specialist.
Works in collaboration and guidance of sub County lab coordinator (SCMLC) and lab specialist.
Requirements
Bachelor Degree in Medical laboratory related field is added advantage.
Higher Diploma/Diploma in Medical Laboratory Sciences.
Registration with Kenya Medical Laboratory Technologists Board (KMLTTB).
1 – 2 years’ experience working in a clinical/research laboratory.
Training in Biosafety & Biosecurity is added advantage.
Knowledge on Laboratory ART monitoring tests.
Laboratory quality monitoring and skills on operation of basic laboratory equipment and maintenance procedures.
Valid current Practicing License.
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
Analytical & Basic Computer skills
