Job Description

Background

GreenPath Food is a specialty food company that produces and sources premium food products through a large network of smallholder Partner Farms. The company exports its premium, organic products to specialty retailers and wholesalers in the Europe and the Middle East.

After 2.5 years of operations, GreenPath now manages a staff of 30 professionals and a network of more than 150 smallholder Partner Farmers, while exporting weekly to Europe.

The company is now launching an exciting line of dried herbs and spices. Over the coming months, GreenPath will be building the facilities needed to dry and store these herbs and spices. First, the company intends to build a solar heated drying room.

This drying room will, first and foremost, serve to dry world class quality herbs and spices. It also will minimize dependence on the electrical grid and further GreenPath’s vision of environmentally friendly smallholder agriculture. Second, GreenPath will construct a storage facility for these herbs and spices to ensure that they are cool and dry while they await export.

This facility should be designed to allow maximally efficient loading, unloading, and product-checking by workers.


Job Requirements

Ideal Candidate Profile

Undergraduate degree in engineering or architecture from a top-tier university with a minimum 3.0 GPA or equivalent

At least 1 year of work experience

Experience in quality assurance for construction projects

Experience in industrial design (e.g., designing manufacturing plants, storage facilities)

Experience with or academic knowledge of thermodynamics of air

Experience with solar energy systems

Experience working in a low/no internet environment and the operational/technical limitations that come with this

Proficiency in written and spoken English

Mission of Role

To build a solar-heated herb drying system and an efficient herb storage system and thereby launch GreenPath’s drying operations.

Responsibilities & Outcomes

Activities

Deliverable

Review, test, revise, and finalize the design for the solar heated drying room

Final design and materials list (“Bill of Quantity”) complete before construction

Provide quality assurance during construction of the solar drying room and make any on-the-spot adjustments to the design

Construction of an effective solar heated drying room based on the initial design, delivered within budget

Conduct initial pilots of the solar drying and make adjustments as needed to ensure effectiveness

Solar heated drying room is functional and drying in line with targeted efficiency metrics (e.g., kg dried per day)

Design storage facility for dried herbs and spices that is maximally efficient for workers loading, unloading, and checking herbs and spices

Final design and materials list (“Bill of Quantity”) complete before construction

Provide quality assurance during construction of the storage facility and make any on-the-spot adjustments to the design

Construction of an effective storage facility based on the initial design, delivered within budget

For highly qualified and interested candidates, we may expand the responsibilities to include drafting initial operating procedures for the drying operation.

Term

This position requires a commitment of 2-4 months, with a requirement that the candidate can start by March 21st.

Required Experiences/Skills

Managing construction projects

Industrial design (e.g., designing manufacturing plants, storage facilities)
