Summary The Telecom Switch Engineer is typically assigned to work with resource readiness, fulfillment & assurance. This is the main element of the 2nd Level Operations activities in an operations Organization.
The Telecom Switch Engineer is responsible for the Operation, Maintenance and stability of the network elements assigned to him.
Description
Principal Accountabilities
Responsible to keep the dependability performance of network resources at optimum level by ensuring that network resource problems are detected and corrected according to agreed timing and standards set and to highlight network resource deficiencies and to some extent predict future degradations.
To take full responsibility for configuration changes introduced to the network and to keep the resource HW / SW configurations and status under control.
To act on relevant problems reported from the call center so that resource problems are remedied or escalated to corresponding system support units.
To contribute in the creation and improvements to procedures and routines within the department / group.
Prepare Network planning and high-level design of the Voice Network.
Prepare documentation of the planned Network.
Prepare and conduct acceptance tests plan, procedures and documentations.
Manage and assist day-to-day service delivery in SIP, VoIP, TDM and Carrier networks to ensure adherence to defines service level expectations.
Ensure effective Auditing, Controlling and Policing of the GSM Networks to detect abuses and report misconduct and unfaithfulness.
Configure SIP, VoIP, TDM devices and Engines.
Configure new system parameters.
Check system performance.
Provide on-the-job training and guidance to colleagues in specific data-related tasks where appropriate.
On-time reporting to direct Line Manager.
Work on tasks assigned by Line Manager.
Main Activities
Define and set up of troubleshooting procedures for 1st and 2nd Level Operations based on main goals and priorities defined by operations management.
Co-ordinate works on capacity expansion by 3rd Level Candidates (Equipment Supplier).
Follow up on fault escalated until closure of the case.
1st Level Restoration.
2nd Line Support.
3rd Level Problem Escalation & Follow Up.
Produce relevant report for Network Incidences/Outages.
Perform preventive maintenance and routine activities such as system backup, health check etc. on regular basis.
Supplying services in support of the customers legacy TDM Voice Telephony Network and Next generation technologies. Reporting to the Line Manager.
Maintain a single standard of Operational Engineering Specification, to permit an efficient and high-quality standard of service from all supported voice platforms on Network.
Provide 2nd/3rd line support for fault progression and project implementation.
Preventative maintenance & operational analysis to ensure good switch performance in-line with agreed contractual requirements.
Identify, troubleshoot and come up with a solution to technical roadblocks around Voice /VOIP / TDM platforms and associated products

More Details on Experience
Have 5+ years of experience in Operation and Maintenance of telecom networks.
Have 5+ years of experience with VOIP/TDM Platforms.
Experience with Dialogic, Veraz, Huawei, Sonus, (switching, SBC,mediagateway, etc.) systems etc. is preferred

Professional/Technical Competencies
In depth knowledge of all network resources HW / SW and their characteristics for the applicable work areas Core, Access, Radio or service networks.
Excellent knowledge of the network resource topology configuration characteristics and capabilities for the applicable work areas Core, Access, Radio or service networks.
Excellent knowledge of resource availability indicators and their interpretation.
Good / excellent knowledge of the Network management system functionality and use of applications related to the work area (surveillance, analysis, configuration, trouble administration etc.).
Good knowledge of network implementation / integration processes.
Awareness of the concepts of all protocols used for GSM/CDMA and should have understanding of IP basics.
Knowledge on GSM node such as HLR/VLR/MSC/GMSC/AuC/MGW.
Knowledge of Routing concepts (SCCP, GTRC, etc.) and Number Analysis.
Knowledge of protocol level of CCS7, ISUP, SCCP, TCAP, MAP and CCS7 Network Planning.
Knowledge of STP, Diameter Signaling Core, and SS7.
Call tracing and troubleshooting
Core capacity planning.
Experience providing customer support on circuit switching equipment in a live network environment
Detailed Knowledge of SBC, SIP, IP and networking.
Solid knowledge of VoIP / TDM platforms
Strong Networking Skills
Good Skills on Switches / Routers
5+ years of telecom engineering background with proven experience in TDM and VoIP technologies
5+ years of experience with telecom circuit installation and troubleshooting (SIP, E-fax, PRI,T1, analog)
Experience of deployment and administration of SBC, gateways, and SIP trunks
Knowledge of data networking concepts including IP addressing, topology, transport, routing, and switching
Knowledge of audio, video and data protocols including SIP and H.323
Experience with DID number management, dial plans, call routing, and E.164 number normalization
Experience troubleshooting voice related network and carrier issues
Understanding and experience with roaming concepts
Experience with vendor and telco carrier management
Good knowledge of Vsat and microwave concepts.
