About GOAL

GOAL is a non-for profit organization that has been working in Ethiopia for over 30 years, towards ensuring the poorest and most vulnerable in our world and those affected by humanitarian crises have access to the fundamental rights of life, including but not limited to adequate shelter, food and livelihoods, water and sanitation, nutrition, healthcare and education.

GOAL implements a range of multi-sectoral development, resilience, recovery and humanitarian responses programmes by being sensitive to cross-cutting issues including gender, accountably, child protection, HIV/AIDS.

Currently, we work with pastoralist, agro-pastoral, pastoral dropouts, rural small holder farmers, rural/urban youth and street children to respond to humanitarian crises and build resilience in Ethiopia working closely with local communities, local government, donors and other key actors.

GOAL E Humanitarian Response is centered on nutrition, WASH, livelihoods, multipurpose cash, NFIs and protection interventions in country wide while the recovery and development focus on livelihoods, economic opportunities, health, health and nutrition system strengthening and WASH with solid emphasis on integrated programming and community-based approach in Oromiya regional state.

The Street Children programme is implemented with local partners in Addis Ababa and Hawassa.

About the Position:

To ensure that GOAL Ethiopia’s emergency WASH project in different parts of the country, incorporate all the Water, Sanitation and Hygiene aspects in to each of the programme activities and that systems are developed to monitor the performance of these activities for affected communities, health institutions and IDP’s (internally displaced peoples).

The Senior WASH officer will be totally responsible to oversee the successful and quality implementation of water supply and sanitation facilities constructions in the assigned zone/region.

The senior WASH officer will be accountable for reporting the progress of WASH implementations to HO WASH and NFI coordinator, on weekly, monthly and quarterly bases. S/he will be responsible for coaching all the WASH staffs working in the area of assignment.

S/he is expected to check and ensure regularly that effective integration is exercised b/n WASH and nutrition in the whole course of the project implementation.

Bachelor Degree in water supply and environmental engineering, Water Resource engineering, Hydraulic Engineering or related field with 4-5 years of relevant experience preferably with an NGO setting.

Desirable qualities, skills and competences:

Demonstrated experience in emergency WASH response

Good demonstrated experience in using AutoCAD and WaterCad software

Ability to demonstrate theoretical aspect of community mobilization in to practice.

Strong organizational skill and experience with work planning and timetabling

Excellent communication and coordination skill, preferably with the community and woreda line departments government

Ability to understand the cultural context of the community and use that culture as an input for community mobilization.
