  • Global Health Corps (GHC) is building a new generation of global health leadership.

  • GHC is developing a cadre of health equity leaders through a unique leadership development program that utilizes experiential and formal learning methods.

  • Through a one-year fellowship program, fellows address a wide-range of health issues with high-impact grassroots organizations, NGOs, and ministries of health in Rwanda, Malawi, Uganda, Zambia, and the United States. Fellowship positions are demand-driven, ensuring that our fellows fill real-time health systems gaps and serve to amplify the great work already in progress.

    The Candidate

  • The Uganda Program and Operations Coordinator is an exceptionally well-organized, hard-working individual within our small, entrepreneurial team. The ideal candidate thrives in an informal, fast-paced, start-up environment and is excited to support the Uganda Country Team in all aspects of fellow and alumni programs and operations.

  • The Uganda Programs and Operations Coordinator will serve on a two-person country team including a Uganda Country Manager.
  • Because the team is small and innovative thinking is valued, there are many opportunities to grow and experiment.

  • The role combines program support areas such as supporting the fellow recruitment and selection process, coordinating retreats, and supporting alumni events, with traditional operational areas such as fiscal coordination, safety and security support, purchasing, vendor management, and housing coordination.

  • This role provides many opportunities to work with a wide network of emerging leaders from around the world and colleagues in many forward-thinking non-profit organizations and the Ministry of Health in Uganda.

  • This is the perfect role for someone who wants to understand how a small non-profit operates and is excited to dive in and gain experience supporting a range of functions.

    Responsibilities

    Alumni Programming and Engagement

  • Work closely with Uganda Country Manager and Alumni central team to help design and expand alumni activities that build upon the leadership training from the fellowship year

  • Identify, organize and execute opportunities for public engagement, professional development and knowledge sharing in order to foster and support the leadership development of the alumni community

  • Coordinate and support Uganda alumni chapter efforts, supporting them to cultivate GHC community engagement, activities and collective impact

  • Cultivate strong relationships with alumni in country and work with the Alumni Chapter and chapter leadership to facilitate strong programming that meets the core programming areas

  • Manage the day-to-day communication with chapter leaders and manage the activity approval, work plan, budget and selection and transition of alumni chapter members; lead quarterly calls with country-level
    Alumni Chapters

  • Serve as the alumni community point of contact and lead for announcement and programmatic communications (i.e. alumni survey, sign-ups for programs, opportunities, etc.)

  • Work with the Director of Community Engagement, seek out opportunities for additional partnership and programming to continue developing programming for alumni in the region.

  • Ensure strong participation and positive experiences of Alumni events and programs; troubleshoot and course correct with the Global Alumni Team as needed.

  • Attend bi-weekly Global Alumni Team calls and monthly one-on-one calls with the Alumni Team

    Operations, Logistics Management, Safety and Security:

  • Secure fellow housing and support fellows to resolve any in housing-related issues in accordance with GHC’s security and safety standards

  • Develop network of health and wellness resources in-country

  • Support fellow visas and work permits acquisition

  • Support logistics for all Uganda program-related events and activities including: research and identify venues, coordinate staff and fellow travel, procure retreat materials, manage logistics and payments

  • Process approved fellow and alumni funding requests and ensure proper tracking of the funds and receipts and timely reimbursement and communication with fellows and alumni

  • Support with routine payments, banking requirements and procurements

  • Manage payment and relationships with all service providers- retreat venues, newspapers, transport, stationary, internet etc.

  • Manage the filling and submission of monthly spending reports, proper book keeping for financial transactions and support documents

  • Manage the filling and submission of the monthly funds request

  • Assist with budget calculations/estimates during annual budget process

  • Monitor and coordinate GHC’s response to fellow and staff safety and security issues, oversee security training and conduct security drills, prepare safety and security preparedness action lists, create fellow emergency plans for each fellow and respond to fellow and staff concerns

  • Assist in tracking emerging threats closely as part of an early warning system and keep GHC staff and relevant fellows informed of security-related news

    Qualifications

  • 3-5 years related work experience

  • Knowledge and passion for leadership development and experience in community building

  • Experience coordinating multiple projects with different teams sometimes involving regular communication and follow-up, tracking budgets and outcomes and strategizing for greater efficacy

  • Strong project management skills including ability to effectively prioritize and complete tasks efficiently and on time

  • Public speaking ability; ability to confidently represent GHC at external events

  • Confident under pressure; ability to analyze information and quickly make decisions;

  • Preferred experience working with young professionals

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

  • Experience working with people in a cross-cultural working environment preferred

  • Tech savviness and interest in information management systems; ability to use Google tools, Dropbox, Salesforce and other online platforms to streamline work

  • Top-notch attention to detail

  • Commitment to social justice and passion for global health equity

  • Long-term legal work status in Uganda required
