The Global Alliance for Improved Nutrition (GAIN) is seeking for a Private Sector Support Associate to support the implementation of CASCADE project activities at GAIN Nigeria office. This role will be offered on a fixed-term contract basis of up to 5 years’, subject to availability of funding. You will be based in Abuja, Nigeria.
About GAINThe Global Alliance for Improved Nutrition (GAIN) is a Swiss-based foundation launched at the UN in 2002 to tackle the human suffering caused by malnutrition. Working with both governments and businesses, we aim to transform food systems so that they deliver more nutritious food for all people.
In particular, we aim to make healthier food choices more desirable, more available, and more affordable. GAIN’s mission is to advance nutrition outcomes by improving consumption of nutritious and safe food for all people, especially the most vulnerable to malnutrition.
About the Role
The (Catalyzing Strengthened Policy Action for Healthy Diets and Resilience) CASCADE programme goal is to improve food security and contribute to the reduction of malnutrition of at least 5 million women of reproductive age and children under 5 in Nigeria.
The programme has two strategic objectives: it aims to increase access to and consumption of healthy diets, as well as increasing the resilience of households to economic and climate change-related shocks with a focus on women of reproductive age and children.
The programme will galvanise government, business, and communities around 5 domains: Policy changes and accountability; Re-engineering markets and mobilising private sector; Transforming cultural norms and practices; Taking a gender transformative approach; Systematising data and learning for policy.
Reporting to the Project Manager, CASCADE, you will support the implementation of specific project activities including capacity building, partnerships management and reporting.
Key Responsibilities include;
Contributing to the implementation of the CASCADE initiative by fostering strong collaboration among strategic partners/organisations and other businesses
Supporting the implementation of CASCADE partnership workplans by tracking processes and timely closure of all gaps identified and prioritised
Facilitating improvements of the existing institutional and regulatory framework to promote the development of private sector engagement and increase accountability for results in the food security and access to nutritious diets
Supporting the capacity development activities of businesses, public-private partnerships with both the government and the private sector. Supporting with the development of appropriate approaches to reinforce partnerships between the government and private sector health providers to better meet the needs of Nigerians
Supporting the government and the private sector to create partnerships between regional health facilities and private sector facilitating collaboration with the relevant agencies of government support in promoting private sector investment in the Nigerian food systems sector
Conducting field visits to ensure that businesses’ commitments are on track and keeping track of the implementation of risk mitigation plans as required
About You
The ideal candidate should have proven experience in identifying, training, and supporting SMEs, including women-led and women-owned businesses, to scale-up private sector investment in nutrition and managing private sector and business-related development projects in Nigeria.
You should have excellent relationship and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to operate within the corporate and public sectors to effectively liaise with private companies, development agencies, and governments at senior level. Also, you should have the ability to provide direction and support in the development and dissemination of strategy, policy analysis, and recommendations.
In addition, this, you will have experience supporting and strengthening participation of private sector providers (PSP) to better align with government’s nutrition strategies for better products and services.
The postholder should have strong presentation and communication skills and must be able to work effectively in multi-cultural and multi-lingual environments. You should be ICT proficiency and willing to travel in challenging environments.
The postholder should have excellent follow-up skills within a diverse set of concurrent operation, programme,
and business development related functions.
Experience providing assistance in advancing gender equality and female empowerment by ensuring full integration of gender issues in programme activities such as performance monitoring, evaluation, learning, and other activities is desirable.
A Degree or above in business management, nutrition, public health or related fields would be an advantage.
About our Offer
The starting salary on offer for this role is from NGN 6,897,828 – NGN 7,876,788 per annum, depending on experience.
GAIN has a fair and competitive salary structure that allows for annual progression subject to good performance.
