Girl Effect Create Production Runner Jobs in South Africa
Girl Effect Create Production Runner Jobs in South Africa
The ContextOur goal is to design and build a campaign that reintroduces Big Sis to our audience and emphasizes the role she plays in connecting girls to Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR) services.
In collaboration with MSSA, we are expanding our partnership to provide a toll-free helpline staffed by trained agents. This initiative aims to connect young people to reliable, confidential, and high-quality services.
Geographically, Big Sis will be accessible to all girls and young women in South Africa. Still, for this particular campaign, we want to focus on service referral in the Western Cape, focusing on the neighbourhoods of Khayelitsha and Mitchells Plain.
Girl Effect aims to increase public engagement with Big Sis across the community by utilising impactful mediums such as murals and posters. By strategically placing wall art in locations where girls and women encounter them regularly, we can effectively reach and connect with our target audience. These visually striking murals serve as powerful storytelling tools, captivating communities and sparking meaningful conversations.
Murals- Our primary objective is to create two large-scale murals in Khayelitsha and Mitchells Plain featuring Big Sis, a communication message, and a QR code that directs girls to the website. Additionally, we plan to paint smaller Big Sis images in various unexpected and intriguing locations throughout the townships, such as walls of local shops.
These smaller artworks will serve as hidden gems, leading to exciting discoveries.
In developing these artworks, we will embrace a street art philosophy, allowing for the inclusion of more direct and impactful messaging. The intention is to present the messaging in a manner that appears less commercial and more artistic while maintaining a strong activist perspective.
Posters- Our plan involves designing a series of "print ads" that will be displayed in community centers, event venues, clinics, and sports areas within the two townships. These posters will encourage girls to interact with Big Sis and also to access available services. Each poster will prominently feature a QR code that directs girls to the Big Sis website.
Our aim is to ensure the widespread distribution of these posters. Wherever there are unauthorised signs promoting illegal abortion services, we intend to replace them with our messages.
Timeline- We aim to start this work in August 2023 and have our artwork and posters placed around South Africa throughout September and beyond for up to one year.
The Campaign: Big Sis has Gotchu!
The Scope:We seek a passionate and well-organized Production Runner to help us proceed smoothly with this project. This Production Runner would assist us with the following:
Scouting and proposing potential locations to the team where we can place the murals and posters. For the most eyeballs.
Speaking to the necessary government officials to understand the process and the documents needed for the project. This will be for posters and murals.
Initiating conversations with property owners, negotiating access and securing their permission to use their properties for 1 year.
Securing the necessary permissions with the local governing bodies
Ensuring that timelines are observed, and the scope of the artwork is fulfilled
Research practical information and logistics involving potential locations and make bookings and travel arrangements where appropriate, e.g., flights, hotels and transportation
Liaise with key members of the production team to assess visual and technical specifications
Ensure no disruptive noises or events are likely to occur during the creation of the murals
Ensure the technical requirements for equipment, power sources and crew accommodation on site are met
Distribute maps and directions to locations, often known as movement orders, to ensure all services and crews reach the locations as directly, safely and quickly as possible
Provide relevant support information to all services and crew
Manage the location on the day and resolve practical or people-related problems as they arise
Supervise location support staff throughout the process
Deal with members of the public who may intrude upon a location
Ensure the final clearing up ('the wrap') runs smoothly and thank site owners.
This work would take 3 months to complete and oversee all the work across South Africa, so the Production Runner would need to be available for this time and have the ability to travel.
