In the face of 2023’s record-breaking heatwaves, storms, and droughts, the world grapples with the relentless impact of climate change. The Global South, often hit hardest, faces an urgent need for awareness and action.

CNN Academy, in collaboration with The Rockefeller Foundation, steps up to empower 15 young journalists from developing nations in Latin America, the Caribbean, Africa, and Asia. Together, we’re launching a pioneering program to amplify their voices, bringing forth stories that demand our attention.

What We Offer:

Selected participants will embark on a transformative journey, delving into the intricacies of climate change reporting through a comprehensive training program by CNN Academy. They’ll learn:

Understanding Climate Science: Grasp the nuances of climate science and its impact on local communities.

Investigative Journalism: Master techniques and data-driven reporting methodologies tailored to climate change.

Effective Communication: Learn to convey complex scientific information to diverse audiences with clarity and impact.

Ethical Reporting: Navigate ethical considerations, community engagement, and fair representation in climate reporting.

Multimedia Storytelling: Embrace various mediums, from visual storytelling to video production and social media engagement.

Fact-Checking and Countering Misinformation: Acquire skills to verify sources, counter misinformation, and uphold journalistic integrity.

Who Can Apply:

We’re looking for passionate individuals who:

Reside

and work in a Global South country.

Identify as content creators, journalists, or storytellers in early career stages.

Demonstrate a keen interest in climate change storytelling with a relevant portfolio.

Possess strong English communication skills.

Commit to actively participating in the entire training program and applying acquired skills to their reporting projects.

Are available to attend the Climate Storytelling Simulation in Abu Dhabi from December 3rd to December 10th.

Compensation and Support:

Selected participants will receive:

Full sponsorship covering travel, accommodation, training materials, and meals during the program.

A CNN Academy Certificate of Completion upon finishing the training.

The opportunity to showcase their final documentaries on CNN or a CNN Academy platform, ensuring their stories reach a global audience.
