Job DescriptionThe Forum for African Women Educationalists (FAWE) is a pan-African non-governmental organisation that is headquartered in Nairobi, Kenya with a network of 34 National Chapters spread across 33 countries in Africa, to promote gender equity and equality in education by fostering positive policies and attitude towards girl’s education.
FAWE-Ethiopia Chapter was founded in 1994 and registered in 2003 as a Resident Charity NGO in with a registration number 0626 and the third registration made from Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia, Authority Civic Society Organizations (ACSO). FAWE Ethiopia is a member of the regional organization and part of a network of thirty-four chapters throughout the continent of Africa.
FAWE Ethiopia is seeking to recruit a high calibre, and results-oriented individual with integrity to partner with a dynamic professional team in the position of Executive Director.
Job SummaryReporting to the FAWE Ethiopia Board, the Executive Director (ED) will be responsible for the successful leadership, overall management, and operations of FAWE Ethiopia Chapter according to the strategic direction, and policies set by the Board of Directors. The Executive Director is responsible for policy implementation and effective management of the organization and all its programs.
The Executive Director is responsible for the overall planning, development, and implementation of girls’ education programs to enhance gender equality by narrowing the gender gap in education.
The Executive Director represents the organization in governmental and non-governmental organizations and the community at large to further partnerships, advocacy objectives, and programing initiatives.
Specifically, the Executive Director will
The Board of Directors delegates responsibility and authority for management functions to the Executive Director toManage and make decisions on the day-to-day operations of the organization; Implement all policies adopted by the Board; Recommend appropriate policy issues to be considered by the Board.
Ensure the effective management of human resources directly related to hiring, supervision, evaluations, disciplinary action, and dismissal of all employees in consultation with the chairperson of the Board of Directors.
Provide leadership and direction to the National Chapters, setting the priorities of the organization, uphold the integrity, reputation, and sustainability of the organization FAWE Ethiopia
Assist the Board of Directors to guide the organization.
Determine staffing needs
and manage recruitment and selection process based on the organization’s Human Resource Policy.
Lead the financial planning and budgeting processes, ensuring that the FAWE Ethiopia has adequate financial resources, and that prudent expenditure of funds is upheld.
Represent FAWE at high level national and regional for a, donor partner and collaborating agencies’ functions and meetings, to advocate for girls’ and women’s education.
Build, nurture and manage strategic alliances and partnership with Ethiopian government and relevant national bodies, donors and other likeminded organizations and networks seeking to promote girls and women education.
Develop innovative and effective resource mobilization strategies to facilitate programme implementation and ensure the sustainability and stability of FAWE Ethiopia
Job Requirements
The Applicant
The successful candidate MUST have a Masters’ degree in any of the following fields: Social Sciences, Education, Political Science, Gender, Law, or any other relevant discipline.
S/he MUST have at least 10-15 years of overall professional experience in a senior management position and as a successful leader in a national or regional organization, 7 of which MUST be in a county coordinator role in a related field.
S/he will be a visionary leader with a demonstrated track record in strategic management, programme development, resource mobilisation, project implementation and monitoring and evaluation.
The ED will possess well developed networking and negotiation skills with the ability to develop strong collaborative partnerships and relationships with donors, high profile government officials and international partners.
S/he will have a passion for girls’ education and will provide focussed leadership and resolve conflict situations.
S/he will possess excellent interpersonal communication skills. S/he will command presence, demonstrate sound decision-making and judgement capabilities, integrity, resilience and will be self-driven.
