The African Population and Health Research Center (APHRC) is a leading Africa-based, African-led, international research institution headquartered in Nairobi, Kenya, with a regional office in Dakar, Senegal. Our researchers are contributing to the body of evidence about the critical issues in population health and wellbeing impeding Africa’s development in order to provide strong direction and recommendations to policy- and decision-makers at all levels.
Our priority research areas are Human Development, Health and Well-Being, Data Science and Evaluation, and Population Dynamics and Urbanization in Africa. In addition to the research component, APHRC has other programmatic areas in Research and Related Capacity Strengthening, Policy Engagement and Communications and International programs.
The APHRC invites applications for Quantitative and Qualitative Field Interviewers in its Neurodevelopmental Disabilities (NDD) study. The study aims to map and document current nurturing care practices for children with NDD in Siaya County. It also aims to establish the needs of caregivers of children with NDDs and examine key determinants and drivers of the quality of nurturing care provided to children with NDDs.
Quantitative Field InterviewersDuties and ResponsibilitiesConduct interviews with all recruited study participants.
Complete, edit, and submit all assigned interviews for cross-checking and verification by the supervisor on a daily basis.
Review the collected data to ensure all questions are completed prior to online submission.
Follow-up with participants for missing responses or correct any inaccurate responses.
Regularly file reports on project activities.
Ensure the safety of all assigned study tools and equipment.
Any other related activity assigned by the supervisor, project manager and principal investigator.
Minimum Qualifications
Kenya Certificate of
Secondary Education (KCSE) certificate, with a minimum grade of C Plain.
Fluency in English, Luo and Swahili languages, both oral and written.
Experience in electronic data capture methods like survey CTO or Open Data Kit (ODK) and devices like electronic digital recorders.
Must be a current resident of Siaya County.
Qualitative Field Interviewers
Duties and Responsibilities
Moderate/facilitate qualitative interviews with all recruited study respondents.
Take notes and compile comprehensive qualitative interview debriefing reports/notes.
Prepare data collection progress report and updates.
Other related tasks assigned by the supervisor, project manager and principal investigator.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Special Needs Education, Disability Studies , Early Childhood Development, Nutrition or any other health related course from a recognized university.
Have proven experience in qualitative data collection and facilitation of group discussions.
Be familiar with computer applications, including MS Excel, MS Word, and MS PowerPoint.
Must be a current resident of Siaya County.
Be fluent in English, Luo, and Swahili languages, both oral and written.
Be prepared to work full-time on the project for the duration of the study.
