Job Description

  • The Feed the Future Ethiopia Value Chain Activity is part of the US Government's Feed the Future Initiative and the Government of Ethiopia's (GoE) Agricultural Growth Program II (AGP-II), and represents a major United States Agency for International Development (USAID) investment in the agricultural sector over the next five years, from January 2017 to December 2021.

  • The Coffee Technologist-Jimma is based at Feed the Future Ethiopia Value Chain Activity (FTFEVCA) satelite offfice for Jimma Reporting to the Sr. Agribusiness Coordinator.

  • The Coffee Technologist in addition to the specific tasks stated below, he is expected to conduct himself in a proper manner at all times as a representative of the program, and is responsible for the safe keeping and care of all program assets assigned to him.

  • The Coffee Technologist respects the leadership and guidance provided by the Sr. Agribusiness Coordinator and actively contributes to the welfare of The Activity's regional and Sub office.

  • Provide comprehensive technical and agronomy support on all aspects of coffee production and harvesting to producers, farmer groups, Cooperatives and Unions, out grower schemes, extension agents, and commercial plantations.

  • Design and deliver advisory services and training to coffee producers that enhances productivity, improves quality and consistency, and increases the level of premium specialty grades.

  • Support all aspects of coffee processing to ensure efficient manufacturing process, improve cupping quality, reduce wastage, and add value to the coffee clients.

  • Provide technical assistance to ensure compliance to local and international standards, traceability systems, environmental management, product
    integrity and food safety, and specific market-orientated branding.

  • Perform any other duties as may be assigned by the Sr. Agribusiness Coordinator and Regional Manager.

    Job Requirements

  • Minimum BSc in plant science, Horticulture, Natural resource and other related and relevant field of study

  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in coffee agronomy

  • Clear understanding of the business community and extensive work experience with an NGO or Development contractor environment, preferably with experience working within USAID projects;

  • Demonstrated ability to set priorities and to work with minimum supervision in order to meet changing deadlines;

  • Excellent team building and organizational skills together with the ability to interact across a multi-cultural environment;

  • Good communication and capacity to work under stress

  • Fluency in English and local language
