We are currently seeking candidates for the position of Project Director for an anticipated 5-year $20 million USD program funded by the LEGO Foundation. The program is expected to focus on improving comprehensive teacher professional development in Kenya’s refugee hosting counties, empowering key stakeholders surrounding teachers, and generating and using evidence on the impacts of high-quality teacher professional development (TPD) and systems support. This position will be based in Nairobi and is contingent upon award.
The Project Director will provide leadership and oversight for a consortium of international and national partners with a focus on managing project timelines, budgets, and deliverables, ensuring compliance with national regulations, FHI 360 policies, and donor requirements, and fostering a safe and equitable working environment.
The Project Director will be the primary liaison with the funder, government and UN officials, and other key stakeholders. He or she will be expected to identify challenges and risks and work with other key personnel to adapt programming in a complex operating environment.
Required Qualifications:Bachelor’s degree in public administration, international development, education, economics, or a related field from an accredited university; Masters and/or Ph.D. preferred.
Minimum of 12 years of experience managing complex donor-funded activities in challenging environments.
Minimum
of 8 years in strategic leadership of line management positions.
Demonstrated ability to manage and support diverse teams in challenging environments.
Demonstrated experience leading consortia.
Strong knowledge of, and commitment to, gender and social equity.
Demonstrated leadership, organizational development, partnership-building, managerial, teambuilding and communication skills.
Proven ability to develop relationships and coordinate with government officials, UN agencies, civil society, and non-governmental organizations.
Previous experience leading large teacher professional development activities.
Previous experience supporting refugees in Kenya or other contexts is strongly preferred.
Previous experience working with the Kenyan Ministry of Education or Teacher Service Commission is strongly preferred.
Familiarity with Kenya’s Competency Based Curriculum, play based learning, MHPSS/SEL, and inclusion strongly preferred.
Fluency in English.
