Summary:

The IPT-G Supervisor will provide ongoing supervision of the IPT-G sessions to enable the IPT-G Facilitators to deliver effective and ethical counselling services to pregnant and lactating mothers with depression attending IPT- groups.

  • Facilitate Identification of depressed women and support facilitators on formation of groups for the intervention using locally validated depression screening tools.

  • Train IPT-G facilitators to equip them with knowledge and skills to conduct weekly 90 minutes IPT-G sessions for 12 weeks.

  • Provide supervision and mentorship to facilitators for weekly IPT-Group sessions for women with depression.

  • Support follow–up of women participating in IPT-Groups and document progress including success stories.

  • Support facilitators with supply and usage of IPTG tools including documenting the learning while they conduct the group sessions and use the information for improving the IPT- group session.

  • Maintain strong collaboration with District Health Office and Social welfare department to provide high quality therapeutic intervention including maintaining referral pathways.

  • Support facilitators to adhere to code of conduct including maintaining confidentiality in all matters relating to group participants consistent with organizational policies and laws.

  • Collect participants' data electronically or using hard copies and prepare reports on progress made and submit to the IPT-G Specialist.

  • Work with nutrition care groups, family members or other community support groups to ensure sustained support to women who have recovered from acute depression.

  • Conduct debriefing sessions with IPT-G facilitators to support them deal with compassionate fatigue, burn-out or vicarious trauma.

  • Follow up the IPT-G Facilitators on a bi-weekly basis and provide brief fortnightly updates to them regarding the technical progress of the team, including identified additional training/capacity building needs.

  • Conduct district and community mapping to identify potential partners for mental health and social services referrals.

  • Participate in all required district stakeholder technical meetings and Akule ndi Thanzi team meetings or with
    management as needed and perform other duties as assigned.

  • *Perform other assigned functions within their area of expertise.

    Qualifications:

    Education:

  • Diploma in Psychosocial counseling or Psychology from a recognized institution B.A

  • Knowledge and skills in the practice of professional psychosocial counselling and clinical supervision

    Qualifications & Experience:

  • Must have at least 600 hours of supervised practice session

  • Demonstrated interest in social work and helping others.

  • A person who has completed a group IPT training course is an asset.

  • Experience of working with people with depression and their families & group facilitation (2 years or more)

  • Broad and in-depth understanding of issues relating to mental health, specifically depression.

  • Experience of facilitating and supervising group therapies.

  • Understanding of self-help approaches and empowerment in mental health

  • Ability to work independently but willing to seek emotional/psychological support in critical moments.

  • Ability to develop, inform and sustain professional relationships, partnerships and networks.

  • Empathy with the aims of Strong Minds goal of treating depression.

  • Natural team player

  • Outstanding organizational skills, with the capacity to handle conflicting demands, meet tight deadlines, and adapt priorities as needed.

  • A positive attitude and flexibility in managing work tasks in a dynamic, high-pressure environment.
