We are looking for an experienced technical programme manager with a proven track record in project design and the ability to work constructively with a range of stakeholders. Fauna & Flora International (FFI) saves species from extinction and habitats from destruction, whilst improving the livelihoods of local people.
Our guiding principles are to work through local partnerships, act as a catalyst for change, make conservation relevant and base decisions on sound science. Founded in 1903, FFI is the world’s longest established international conservation body; our conservation work, and impact, spans the globe.
We are offering a unique opportunity to lead the delivery of a topical and exciting programme of work. You will have proven project and programme management abilities and strong technical skills.
You will be able to develop robust and defensible strategies for intervention on priority marine conservation issues, focused on ultimate biodiversity impact, and be able to communicate these to key audiences.
We are looking for an experienced technical programme manager with a proven track record in project design and the ability to work constructively with a range of stakeholders.
You will be comfortable building strong and effective relationships with corporates, policy makers, scientists and NGOs, including NGOs and teams within FFI’s wider countries of operation. .
Job Responsibilities: Manage the local implementation and delivery of FFI’s commitments within the project
Ensure project partners meet their commitments, ensuring up-to-date workplans and budgets are in place to meet project aims, objectives and timelines and ensuring that activities are implemented in line with workplans and within budget
Ensure ecological, socio-economic and governance baselines in community conservancies targeted are established jointly with project partners
Ensure that project monitoring and evaluation is in place and fit for purpose, working with FFI team (in Kenya and in Cambridge) to review results and adapt project implementation
as required
Work with FFI team to set up necessary contracts and agreements with project partners and stakeholders, in accordance with FFI policies and procedures
Represent the project and keep all relevant stakeholders abreast of the project and its progress, with a particular consideration for community institutions as well as government institutions and NGOs for example, active in the area and on related topics
Develop and maintain strong relationships with all key stakeholders so to gain cooperation to accomplish project goals
Lead on donor reporting, ensuring reports are delivered to a high standard, on time and in accordance with donor requirements
Under the guidance of the Senior Programme Manager, Eastern Africa, provide active input and support, and when appropriate lead, new project development
Job Skills:
Excellent ability to manage conservation projects and teams, preferably marine/coastal
Strong technical skills relating to marine ecology and conservation
Proven ability to develop, maintain and leverage partnerships for work at scale, including governments, national and local NGOs, community groups and businesses
Ability to communicate publicly (written and oral) and with a wide range of audiences
Fluency in written and spoken English
Strong report writing and fundraising
Proven project financial / budget management
Job Qualifications:
MSc degree in a related field (e.g. conservation, marine ecology, zoology, rural development, project management) or equivalent level working experience
Significant experience in project management and grant compliance
Proven experience in building and strengthening partnerships and partner organisations
Experience in engaging with rural/coastal communities on management of local natural resources
Experience in fisheries and/or Marine Protected Areas management from community level to engaging with government
Desirable
Familiar with current macro-level development projects in the Lamu area, for example the Lamu Port and South Sudan Ethiopia Transport (LAPSSET) programme
Experience living and/or working in the Northern part of the coast (Tana river delta, Lamu archipelago)
Experience working with Kenyan institutions in management/conservation of natural resource
