About Fairtrade Africa

  • Fairtrade Africa (FTA) is the umbrella network organization representing Fairtrade-certified producers and workers in Africa.

  • It has four (4) regional networks – Eastern & Central Africa; Southern Africa; Western Africa; and the Middle East and North Africa.

    About FTA’s Dignity for All (D4A) Finnish-funded Impact Programme

  • This is a four-year (2018-2021) Programme funded by the Ministry for Foreign Affairs of Finland (MFA) through Fairtrade Finland with additional match funds from National Fairtrade Organizations and Commercial Partners.

  • Underpinned by the Fairtrade Theory of Change (ToC), the D4A Impact Programme seeks to achieve justice and fairness for the most marginalized farmers and workers by supporting their rights, free­doms, empowerment through strengthened capabilities and assets, attainment of sustainable livelihoods through resilient agro-based trade systems and societies.

  • The programme aims at capturing and assessing simultaneous change in four areas (spheres of change): small producer & worker organizations; supply chain business practices; consumer behaviour and civil society action.

    About D4A Ethiopia Coffee Project (2018-2021)

  • The D4A Ethiopia Coffee project is one of the eight projects under FTA’s D4A programme targeting three (3) Fairtrade-certified coffee unions in Ethiopia.

  • Overall project goal (impact) is to achieve a dignified, sustainable, and quality of life for coffee producers and workers in the 3 unions.

  • The project purpose (outcome) is to realize improved sustainability of coffee value chains, viable & inclusive businesses in protected environments.

  • The project targets 52, 765 rights holders (workers) in 28 primary cooperative societies across three unions namely; Sidama, Yirgacheffe, and Bench Maji.

    Expected outputs of the D4A Ethiopia Coffee Project

  • Increased coffee productivity among targeted SPOs

  • Improved quality of coffee supplied by member targeted SPOs

  • Improved
    administrative, financial and human resource management capacities of SPOs

  • Enhanced market access and linkages

  • Coffee production and processing system with increased environmental sustainability and resilience to climate change


    Deliverables of the consultancy

  • A complete report on:

    • Implementation status of the project.

    • Performance of the project with respect to the five (5) output areas.

  • A completed Indicator performance tracking table for output specific measurements

  • A summary report of the assignment with clear recommendations

    Consultant Specifications

    • Extensive experience in developing and delivering M&E systems, tools, and training for livelihoods and evaluations (including food security, crops-based livelihoods and value chains, human rights approaches) or related fields on an international basis across multiple regions

    • Over 5 years extensive experience at senior levels implementing evaluations of donor-funded projects and programmes in multisectoral environments;

    • Excellent skills in study designs and implementation, quantitative and qualitative data, and information management approaches;

    • Highly organized with the ability to be flexible, able to manage teams, can multi-task and respond proactively

    • Excellent interpersonal, written, analytical and verbal communication skills

    • The consultant MUST be available to undertake the assignment in the month of July 2021.
