Redicated international tax professional required to manage company's direct and indirect tax obligations throughout the African region.
The individual will be responsible for monthly and annual tax effect accounting processes, ongoing validation of transfer pricing guidelines, ensure ongoing compliance with all African indirect taxes (e.g. GST/VAT), optimisation of withholding taxes and import/export duties.
The individual must have a strong background in tax.
The individual must be experienced in dealing with Tax Authorities/Regulators.
This role reports to the Regional Tax Manager – EMEA who reports to Global Head of Tax. Normal responsibilities and duties will be directed, predominantly, by these Managers.

Compliance
Ensure compliance for all direct and indirect tax returns and payments predominantly in Africa but also supporting the Regional Tax Manager – EMEA
Responsible for tax effect accounting for the African entities
Preparation/Review of company direct and indirect tax returns (oversee lodgements where appropriate) and ensure no late lodgements
Manage all tax and transfer pricing compliance aspects across the African region (including transfer pricing documentation requirements, as required)
Manage tax payments and ensure no penalties for late payments
Prepare tax journals and manage general ledger tax timing differences
Ensure SAP system is correctly capturing tax related transactions
Coordinate all tax related audit processes (internal, external and tax), including collection and provision of information to tax auditors,
development of strategy for audit resolution etc
Manage relationship with tax auditors
Keep abreast of tax law changes across the African region and apply tax knowledge to determine correct tax impact.
Optimisation: Identify approved practices to improve tax position, e.g. WHT, import/export duties, managing tax controls and processes
Assist company Group Tax with ongoing analysis of transactions to understand tax position and suggest improvements
Liaison with company Group Tax to identify all potential incentive benefits offered
Assist in the development and implementation of strategies, initiatives to achieve an effective group tax rate within an acceptable range
Assist in reviewing the corporate structure to ensure efficient repatriation of profits
Work with the business to optimise business operations
Working together: Working closely with the Regional Tax Manager – EMEA, the company African business and company Group Tax (in Melbourne, Australia)
Close working relationship with the other members of the tax function (Globally)
Maintain relationship with external advisers
Maintain relationship with the business and other finance personnel in Africa
Maintain relationships with tax authorities in the African region
Provide tax advice to the African business
No direct or indirect reports to manage
Reports directly to Regional Tax Manager – EMEA (immediate superior)
Education and Experience
Degree in tax or accounting discipline
7+ years experience
Preferable Big 4 or multinational experience
Skills
International tax
Transfer pricing
African tax compliance
SAP & Hyperion or similar
Fluent English and at least one other language
