About

  • The role is a senior role within the agency where you will be the primary strategist in the Agency's Durban office reporting to the South African Group CSO. As the strategic lead you will be responsible for driving strategic thinking, processes and executions as well as growing and nurturing the current strategy team.

  • The role requires a strong understanding of the retail environment and in-depth strategic knowledge across different media. Digital capabilities are crucially important, and fundamental data analysis capabilities are required, with advanced capabilities, skills and knowledge a plus.

  • In this progressive Agency, the Head of Strategy’s main responsibility is to ensure that the agency is effectively positioned to guide the strategic direction of 6 major clients, 4 of whom have a retail focus. You will lead a team of 4 in support of this ongoing mission.

  • This position will suit someone with strong retail experience and a pragmatic approach to marketing solutions.

    Responsibilities

  • Annual strategic planning of all accounts.

  • Leading strategic thinking and processes across the agency.

  • Building and maintaining key strategic client relationships.

  • Taking guidance and leadership from the Group CSO into projects and working.

  • Creating insight driven strategies that inspire creative teams, and help our clients stand out in cluttered markets.

  • Using strategy to develop winning pitch work, and
    inspiring creative pitches through insight development, strategic understanding, and differentiation.

  • Leading and developing key brand, communication, marketing, campaign, retail, creative and digital strategies across client portfolios.

  • Driving creative inspiration and cultural awareness within the agency.

  • Strategic brief development and guidance.

  • Creating account growth through strategic recommendations and planning.

  • Responsible for the learning, growth and management of the strategy team.

  • Overseeing strategy execution within creative outputs.

  • Drive and lead disruption processes and thinking

  • Workshop planning and development.

  • Drive data usage and understanding within the agency, including developing data driven insights and recommendations across digital channels.

  • Pushing the agency forward through strategy.

  • Brand and communication planning

  • Consulting at board level

  • Creative inspiration

  • Competitive reviews

  • New business support and overarching agency management.

    Requirements

  • Strong interpersonal skills to develop and grow key strategic relationships.

  • Strong presentation and workshop skills.

  • Strong strategic thinking capabilities and
  • knowledge of core strategy philosophies and processes.

    Data analysis and wrangling capabilities and experience with the following tools:

  • Google Analytics

  • Facebook Insights

  • Instagram Insights

  • Twitter Insights

  • Google Data Studio

  • Excel

  • API connectors

  • Online listening tools e.g. Meltwater, Crimson Hexagon or similar

  • Strong retail knowledge and understanding.

  • Leadership ability

  • Ability to juggle multiple strategic requirements

    Qualifications and Experience

  • 8+ years in a strategic role within an agency

  • Solid retail and brand background

  • Relevant marketing diploma and/or degree

  • MBA would be an advantage

  • Strategic studies either as part of the above or in addition to advantages.
