Exciting Professional Conduct Situational and Contextual Analysis Opportunities at WWF-Kenya
WWF-Kenya is a locally registered conservation NGO and an affiliate of WWF-International.
WWF-Kenya has supported conservation work in Kenya since 1962 as part of programme office of WWF-International until September 2016 when it was transformed into a National Organisation.
Part of the transformation was the change of governance from WWF International to Board of Directors. The Board is responsible for overseeing the strategic implementation of conservation programmes in Kenya, asset management and overall oversight.
For effective Board functioning, WWF-Kenya is seeking the services of a qualified and experienced service provider to offer Board Secretarial Services including record taking and keeping during and after Board Meeting.
Responsibilities
Conduct a situational analysis of the natural resource management sector, sustainable development, and the drivers, trends and processes impacting on biodiversity conservation e.g. policy and legislative frameworks, economic development, demographic changes and needs, climate change inter alia as well as emerging opportunities.
Critically review the current WWF Kenya strategy and conservation delivery model (e.g. strategies, sustainability, funding model and partnerships), taking stock of key achievements, areas of underperformance, lessons learnt alongside emerging opportunities and developments in the conservation sector.
Explore opportunities to leverage greater conservation impact around WWF Kenya’s key thematic areas of work at scale, including linkages to and influence on government development agenda to contribute to sustainable development
Analyse and map critical potential stakeholders and identify their specific roles and responsibilities so as to inform how best the WWF Kenya strategy should engage and interact with them
Examine enablers towards integrated strategies, systems and planning approach for greater conservation impact. This will include but not limited to understanding WWF Kenya’s contribution to the WWF Global Practices, goals and drivers. Provide an in-depth examination into the best ways of facilitating and deepening our work to achieve transboundary goals through transformative concepts.
Explore existing sustainable and innovative financial models with a view of suggesting disruptive approaches to WWF Kenya.
Assess the role, alignment and impacts of existing conservation action plans towards achieving local, regional and global
conservation agendas.
Throughout, the analysis should consider the long-term sustainability of the strategies, approaches and actions proposed and of WWF-Kenya itself.
Methodology
To deliver on this assignment, the consultant(s) shall adopt a consultative and participatory approach to gather information and package it in an acceptable manner. The approach adopted should demonstrate a close link to the data collected from various relevant sources without any bias. The key steps must include the following
A desk review of available information and data
Key informant interviews with relevant government, donors, private sector, I/NGO staff and community representatives.
Primary data collection (qualitative data supported by reasonable quantitative information gathered from use of structured questionnaires, interviews and thematic group discussions).
Stakeholders analysis and mapping (stakeholders can be organizations, groups departments, networks or individuals with an analysis of who is doing what in the context)
Feedback and discussions in consultation and validation workshops
The selected consultant(s) will be expected to develop a detailed methodology in agreement with the WWF Kenya focal point.
Requirements
Doctorate in any of the following disciplines; Ecology and Conservation, Natural Resource Management, Environmental Sciences, Environmental Protection and Conservation, Wildlife Management, and Biodiversity Management
At least 8 years of experience in consulting or working as a conservationist
Demonstrated ability to assess complex situations to analyse critical issues succinctly and clearly and draw conclusions and recommendations.
Proven in-depth understanding and consulting experience regarding environmental conservation in Kenya
