Job DescriptionEuropean Cooperative for Rural Development (EUCORD) is recruiting a Project Accountant for Barley Value Chain Development Project co-funded by Heineken International N.V. and the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs and in partnership with Heineken Brewery S.C- Ethiopia. The responsibilities, duties and qualification required for this position are described in below.
EUCORD is a Brussels based non-profit organization. Its mission is to help people living in poverty in developing countries to improve their wellbeing.
It aims to achieve this by engaging the private sector in delivering services to rural communities so as to ensure healthy families and sustainable livelihoods.
Position SummaryThe Project Accountant will be responsible for providing effective financial support to the Ethiopia component of the CREATE Project ensuring compliance with donors’ (Netherlands’ Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Heineken Brewery S.C.) and European Cooperative for Rural Development’s (EUCORD) policies and procedures.
The Project Accountant basically has to work of accounting but reports to Finance and Admin. The project Accountant assists Admin and Finance officer in the daily operations of the finance department, of monthly accounts, assists in account payments, receivables, and preparation of monthly financial statements, maintain balance sheets, subsidiary ledgers and assisting on running financial projects.
He or she basically has to do the work related to general accounting such as preparing journal entries, monthly closing and accounting analysis.
Project Accountant Duties and Responsibilities Maintains financial records analyzing balance sheets and general ledger accounts. Prepare standard source documents and record them into the accounting software (Peachtree, PIVOT etc.).
Monitor cash balances, prepare advance account reconciliations, bank reconciliations and maintain a good system of records.
Secures financial information by completing database backups; keeping information confidential.
Work to ensure compliance to the Government of Ethiopia’s financial management regulations.
Prepare month-end Journal entries and ensure all month-end expenses are captured and ensure completion of basic accounting Journal entries and analysis as assigned
Maintains accounting controls by following policies and procedures; complying with local financial legal requirements.
Maintains general ledger accounts by reconciling accounts receivable detail and control accounts; adjusting entries for amortizations prepaid; analyzing and reconciling retain age and accounts payable ledgers; preparing fixed asset depreciation and accruals.
Review and reconcile the project petty cash and work advance.
Prepare wire transfer requests.
Assist in preparing monthly financial reports for submission to the management team and to the Donors.
Assist in creating and submission of government reports and tax returns related to projects
Review time sheets for work related to a project and prepare payroll checks for local staff.
Work closely with program and administrative staff to ensure transactions are properly coded.
Compile information for internal and external auditors, as required
Undertake payments when there are workshops, trainings, exchange visits etc as deemed necessary and if requested by the Programe team.
Attend to other tasks as may be assigned by immediate supervisor.

Education and Qualifications
BA Degree/MBA in Accounting
Experience: 4-2 years’ relevant work experience (Preferably NGO experience is an advantage)
Basic computer skills
Excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills
Ability to organise and analyse financial and other data in a clear and coherent manner
Ability to prioritize and work under pressure
The candidate should be very proficient in use of accounting software like Peachtree, workbooks, Microsoft Excel.
Ability to work independently with minimum supervision within deadlines and frequently shifting priorities
Strong attention to detail and adherence to ethical accounting principles
