Roles and ResponsibilitiesSupport the national tuberculosis reference laboratory in planning implementation, monitoring and reporting of routine Tuberculosis program activities.
Consult and assist the national tuberculosis reference laboratory to adequately address the need of the national TB program.
Implement tuberculosis-focused technical assistance, diagnostic network and facilities strengthening, and quality improvement interventions in line with national priorities
Support developing or updating national diagnostic network strategic plans, SOPs and policies
Review adherence to diagnostic algorithms and use of those algorithms to make clinical decisions
Monitors and reports progress with diagnostic network enhancement activities as per the approved country work plan
Work collaboratively and coordinate with other technical staff as well as project partners on development and implementation of project work-plans.
Providing advice for research program leadership.
Providing technical support and guidance on grant management and application
Searching and applying for TB and related grants.
Assisting in the development of best practice research methodologies during grant application
Initiating, building, and maintenance of relationships with key partners and maintain and develop strategic relationships and share learning with key stakeholders groups in national and international research organizations and universities
Providing Mentorship, Coaching, and guidance to other EPHI-NTRL staff with less experience on research protocol development, data collection, data analysis, technical
report-write-up, manuscript preparation, and publication processes
Job Requirements
PHD in public health with a background in health discipline.
A total of more than 10 years’ experience of which at least five years of experience in TB related diagnostic and research.
Technical competency in the diagnosis of infectious diseases (TB preferable).
Competent in current diagnostic methods for tuberculosis including point-of-care tests
Experience in bioinformatics application and use
Fluency in written and spoken English
Competitive grant writing skill with evidence of grant wining
Publication track-record in reputable academic and/or journals
Knowledge on Global End-TB strategies and its alignment with the National Tuberculosis Program and implementation modalities, TB research priority areas, current TB diagnostic algorithm and technologies, leadership and management principles of TB research projects, and project human resources management
Required Skills and Attributes
Strong interpersonal skills in facilitation and stakeholder engagement/coordination
Excellent communication skills, including public speaking and ability to address complex issues and concepts clearly, concisely and with influence.
Excellent computer literacy and strong, demonstrable experience of the design and use of quantitative and qualitative research methods
Excellent writing skill
Familiarity with the applications of statistical data entry and analysis software (SPSS, STATA, Epi-Data, Epi-Info etc.)
