Job DescriptionBackgroundEthiopian Public Health Institute (EPHI) is an exciting and dynamic autonomous federal government institute having its own legal personality as the main government body in charge of three main tasks as expressed in the regulation number 301/2013.
The institute is mandated to conduct researches and technology transfer in public health issue; provide referral service for diagnostic and analytical tests; support the capacity building of health and food science laboratories at the national level for quality laboratory services; leads the public health emergency management of the country; and conduct researches in traditional medicine.
The Public Health Emergency Management (PHEM) division focuses on disease outbreaks, nutritional emergencies, and health consequences of natural and manmade disasters.
PHEM mainly emphasizes on early and timely detection, risk communication and control of epidemics and other public health threats, reduction in morbidity, mortality as well as case fatality rate of epidemic diseases to cope with existing, emerging and re-emerging epidemics, natural disasters of national and international concerns.

Roles and Responsibility:
Develop and support operational research projects, short term and long term strategic plans related to public health emergencies
Provide technical assistance in epidemiological investigation and response of public health emergencies
Analyze surveillance data using various advanced statistical approaches to draw conclusions or make predictions and provide evidence for action
Write detailed analysis and descriptions of findings for researches
Analysis and interpretation surveillance data and provide annual progress report, scientific papers,
regular weekly feedbacks
Design surveys to assess health issues
Develop or implement data analysis algorithms
Design and create databases for surveillance
Facilitate and coordinate the collection of data
Develop or use mathematical models to track changes in biological phenomena such as the spread of infectious diseases
Design research studies in collaboration with other professionals
Conduct researches, prepare scientific papers
Participation and provision of technical expertise in scientific conferences at national and international level
Conduct surveillance activities, case investigation, outbreak response activities
Follow and monitor the trends of diseases/conditions under public health surveillance
Prepare and review weekly epidemiological bulletin
Identify, assess and monitor existing or potential threats related to the public health
Job Requirements
Qualification: MSc in biostatistics, Health Informatics or other related fields
Minimum Experience: Six (6) years
Required number: Four (4)

Proven knowledge and skill in Bio statistical applications and interpretations
Proven skills and knowledge in Modeling
Proven skills and knowledge in health informatics
Proven skills and knowledge in GIS and Mapping
Efficient in epidemiological data analysis and interpretation
Effective in communication, multi-tasking, organizational, and prioritization
Ability to meet deadlines; work independently and cooperatively with team members
Excellent communication skills, preferably with good experience in developing proposals and winning grants
Ability and willingness to travel to rural locations
