Job DescriptionEthiopia Public Health Institute (EPHI) is nationally mandated institute to lead public health research on priority health problems.
Health System and Reproductive Health Research Directorate (HS-RH-RD) is one of the directorates of EPHI which has roles and responsibilities to conduct national and subnational researches on health system and reproductive health.
Health System and Reproductive Health Research(HS-RH-R) is a multidisciplinary scientific field that examines how people get access to health care practitioners and health care services, how much care costs, and what happens to patients as a result of the care.
Studies in HS-RH-RD investigate how social factors, financing systems, organizational structures and processes, medical technology, and personal behaviours affect access to health care, the quality and cost of health care, and quantity and quality of life.
Health System and Reproductive Health Research encompasses research on the policies, organizations, programs and people that make up health systems, as well as how the interactions amongst these elements, and the broader influences of the decision-making practices within the health system to influence system performance.
Health System and Reproductive Health Research Directorate is looking to hirefourhighly qualified and energetic researchers having the following qualifications and experiences:
Outcome 1: Develop project theories, seek financial support, and implement as per the plan.
Gather the necessary technical & financial support by preparing and presenting project theories
Plan, conduct and oversee the activities and projects undertaken therewith, supervise and prepare a plan-based timely report and technical report and submit to the immediate manager
Follow up and supervise that ongoing investigations follow ethical principles
Analyse information from laboratory and field data, and provides scientific interpretation
Outcome 2: Develop knowledge and skills of researchers in the classroom, undergraduate students, and others
Provide technical support to researchers in the classroom
Advise students who are pursuing their undergraduate degree in the field
Cause the use of teacher publications for laboratory and field studies
Provide trainings in his/her field of study.
Outcome 3:Monitoring and ensuring that the field research and research conducted in laboratories is of good quality
Outline the resources required for research and research activities, assists co-researchers on the project study, assures that it is prepared properly, monitors its procurement performance and ensures compliance with specifications;
Adjust by reviewing the Standard Operational Procedure (SOP), scientifically drafted laboratory guidelines, and monitors their implementation;
Ensure that field /laboratory equipment is periodically inspected;
Perform Verification and Validation work for laboratory testing methods, inputs and equipment, ensures uncertainty and corrects test results;
Outcome 4: Contribute to the use of trusted
research results
Contribute to the activities being undertaken to benefit the community and stakeholders, including products (food, medicine, vaccines, kits, media, etc.)
Present proposals for policy improvement input based on available research and research findings;
Transmit educational lectures through various means of communication to improve the health and nutrition of the community
Outcome 5 Provide professional assistance by participating in national health and nutrition forums and services
Contribute professionally to the preparation of national and institutional strategic plans related to health and nutrition;
Contribute to the professionalization of technologies that are of national importance if used in the public interest;
Contribute to the Institute or its own initiative and provide professional support to the work of the Institute, which the Institute is interested in;
Publish scientific research articles primarily on recognized journals, promoters and other articles, mainly in collaboration with other researchers.
Job Requirements
Position No. 1:M.Ph./M.Sc. degree in Health economics or any of the related mentioned field with a background of economics or anyhealth-related field.
Position No. 2:M.Ph./M.Sc./M.A. degree in Health Service Management or any of the related mentioned field with a back ground of Management, economics or any health-related field.
Position No. 3:M.Sc. degree in Health Informatics or any of the related mentioned field with a background of Information technology, or computer science, or statistics.
Position No. 4:M.Sc./M.A. degree in logistic and supply management system or any of the related mentioned field with a background of Pharmacy.
Additional requirements
A minimum of four years relevant experience in respective vacant position.
Have track record of publication on peer review journals is an advantageous.
Demonstrated experience in writing research proposals and protocols; designing tools; and conducting interviews, focus group discussions.
Possess substantial knowledge on the current health system organizational structure of Ethiopia.
Ability of exercising their own judgment within the framework of a set of complex written guidelines for data quality assurance.
Be familiar with local and international research ethics.
Be able to use and/or able to create electronic data collection tools (CSPro, ODK,surveyCTO, google forms, etc).
Have a good proficiency on statistical software such as STATA, SPSS, R-commander, or SAS etc.
