Job DescriptionBackgroundEthiopian Public Health Institute (EPHI) is an exciting and dynamic autonomous federal government institute having its own legal personality as the main government body in charge of three main tasks as expressed in the regulation number 301/2013.
The institute is mandated to conduct researches and technology transfer in public health issue; provide referral service for diagnostic and analytical tests; support the capacity building of health and food science laboratories at the national level for quality laboratory services; leads the public health emergency management of the country; and conduct researches in traditional medicine.
The Public Health Emergency Management (PHEM) division focuses on disease outbreaks, nutritional emergencies, and health consequences of natural and manmade disasters.
PHEM mainly emphasizes on early and timely detection, risk communication and control of epidemics and other public health threats, reduction in morbidity, mortality as well as case fatality rate of epidemic diseases to cope with existing, emerging and re-emerging epidemics, natural disasters of national and international concerns.

Roles and Responsibility:
Assess nutritional emergencies situations at national level
Develop strategies to respond to nutritional emergencies
Carry out nutritional surveillance
Compiling assessment findings, risk profiles, researches and possible prevention strategies
Prepare guideline, brochures, leaflets and audio visual materials for both health workers and community if needed for malnutrition
Ensure the availability of supplies for malnutrition response
Coordinate malnutrition response activities in collaboration with Ministry of Health and Partners
Coordinate and conduct malnutrition screening
Conduct rapid assessment and provide recovery activities related to malnutrition
Monitor the quality and
reliability of the nutritional data
Interpret data, recommend issuance of alert or warnings and formulate practical recommendations
Prepare training material, guidelines, protocols and manuals
Organize and give short term trainings to health care workers
Prepare, coordinate and facilitate different national meetings
Mobilize and secure resources required for the trainings, emergency response, supervisions, etc.
Prepare technical field report to the team leader after each field work
Working under stress condition with additional extra time when required
Willing to be on call for emergency duty at the Emergency Operation Center (EOC) and at any place accordingly
Job Requirements
Qualification: MSc in Nutrition, Food Science or related fields
Minimum Experience: Six (6) Years
Required number: Two (2)
Desirable Qualities, Skills and Competences:
Experience in humanitarian situation and emergency nutrition programming
Demonstrated progressive experience in providing technical expertise in the Community based Management of Acute Malnutrition (CMAM) during emergency situation.
Experience with emergency nutrition response
Experience and skills in providing and facilitation of training
Demonstrated analytical and conceptual skills.
Good computer skills, including Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint, SMART, Epi-Info and/or other relevant statistics packages.
Experience with mentoring and oversee staff activities
Strong organizational skills and experience with project planning, timetabling and monitoring budgets would be an asset
Excellent communication skills, preferably with some experience or exposure to developing and writing proposals
Ability and willingness to travel to rural locations and stay there sometime
