Reporting to: National Data Management Center for health (NDMC)

Background

The National Data Management Center for health (NDMC) at the Ethiopian Public Health Institute (EPHI) is a responsible center to centrally archive health and health related data, process and manage health research, apply robust data analytic technics, synthesis evidence and to ensure evidence utilization for decision making by the Federal Ministry of Health (FMoH) and other relevant stakeholders at local, sub-national and national and international levels.

NDMC has collaborative partnership with Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation (IHME), University of Washington and has established a Burden of Disease (BoD) Unit.

The BoD Unit is responsible for data mapping, collecting, reviewing and archiving available health and health related data in the country and for producing national and subnational burden of disease estimates collaboratively with Global Burden of Disease (GBD) Study centered at IHME for population and demography, mortality and risk factors for a range of communicable diseases, non-communicable diseases, maternal newborn and child health, nutrition and for injuries.

The unit creates platforms for translating BoD evidence for decision and policy at national and subnational levels. The NDMC is looking for high caliber staff for this collaborative project.

Roles and responsibilities

Identify evidence demands of Ministry of Health and its partners, media outlets to facilitate evidence to policy translation

Translate key messages

and results from the center into evidence briefs, media communications, and presentations

Manage activities and promote the use of NDMC analysis work among decision-makers, media and advocacy.

Contribute in the development and implementation of evidence to policy translation road map

Execute evidence to policy translation planning and progress tracking mechanisms,

Create written content for the NDMC and EPHI leaders

Work with NDMC teams to increase opportunities for deeper engagement of the activities

Support related NDMC and EPHI activities as needed

Job Requirements

MSC in Evidence Translation/Health Journalism/Policy analysis and related social science with health background 7 years’ experience

Desired skills and experiences

Strong written and oral communication skills; demonstrated ability to communicate clearly and professionally with internal and external stakeholders.

Ability to quickly understand and synthesize relevant materials for a range of both broad and targeted audiences.

Demonstrated experience with media communications and advocacy

Ability to develop and write materials such as policy reports, briefings, media and web content, infographics, and presentations that summarize the key aspects of research findings

Ability to develop a thorough understanding of target audiences’ interests, information needs, content knowledge, and motivations to develop content that resonates with them.

Ability to give presentations and create presentation materials and policy briefings that describe the implications of research results for decision-makers.
