BackgroundThe National Data Management Center for health (NDMC) at the Ethiopian Public Health Institute (EPHI) is a responsible center to centrally archive health and health related data, process and manage health research, apply robust data analytic technics, synthesis evidence and to ensure evidence utilization for decision making by the Federal Ministry of Health (FMoH) and other relevant stakeholders at local, sub-national and national and international levels.
NDMC has collaborative partnership with Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation (IHME), University of Washington and has established a Burden of Disease (BoD) Unit.
The BoD Unit is responsible for data mapping, collecting, reviewing and archiving available health and health related data in the country and for producing national and subnational burden of disease estimates collaboratively with Global Burden of Disease (GBD) Study centered at IHME for population and demography, mortality and risk factors for a range of communicable diseases, non-communicable diseases, maternal newborn and child health, nutrition and for injuries.
The unit creates platforms for translating BoD evidence for decision and policy at national and subnational levels. The NDMC is looking for high caliber staff for this collaborative project.
Roles and responsibilities Translate key messages and results from complex analysis into publications, and presentations
Work with EPHI and IHME teams to increase opportunities for deeper engagement of the activities
Identify evidence demands of Ministry of Health and its partners, media outlets to facilitate evidence to policy translation
Develop and implement evidence to policy translation roadmap
Develop and implement evidence to policy translation planning and progress tracking mechanisms,
Manage activities and promote the use of NDMC analysis work among decision-makers.
Executing NDMC activities at a high level on requests for Senior Lead, Director Generals, Deputy Director Generals, Ministers, State Ministers (written content, briefings, etc.)
Create written content for the institute Director General, Deputy Director, Senior Lead and others
Support related NDMC and EPHI activities as needed
Job Requirements
PhD in Evidence Translation/Health Journalism/Health Education /Policy analysis or related social science with health background and 5 years and above experience.
MSC in Evidence Translation/Health Journalism/Health Education and related social science with health background and 10 years and above
experience

Demonstrated command of complex multidisciplinary topics in public health research and evaluation
Ability to quickly understand and synthesize relevant materials for a range of both broad and targeted audiences.
Strong written and oral communication skills; demonstrated ability to communicate clearly and professionally with internal and external stakeholders.
Demonstrated experience with media communications
Ability to develop and write materials such as policy reports, briefings, media and web content, infographics, and presentations that summarize the key aspects of research findings from complex projects and present the information in a way that is concise, comprehensible, and of value in decision-making to policymakers and other nontechnical audiences.
Work directly with research teams to fully understand substantive content and contextual considerations in order to produce accurate and effective written materials for non-technical audiences and accomplish dissemination and uptake objectives.
Innovate ways to best represent data and results for non-technical audiences so they can readily understand and use the information presented.
Produce materials highlighting the center objectives and research foci to be used as tools for engaging collaborators, policymakers, donors, and the public.
Assist with multiple aspects of materials production, including helping publications management, and both implementing and coordinating fact-checking internally.
Coordinate with NDMC team members on proposal writing and the proposal submission process
Ability to develop a thorough understanding of target audiences’ interests, information needs, content knowledge, and motivations to develop content that resonates with them.
Be knowledgeable about current research projects in order to anticipate and plan for material needs and quickly become immersed in new research findings to produce necessary content.
Develop targeted dissemination plans for key findings and orchestrate the dissemination effort for select publications.
Contribute to funding proposals. Help to devise plans that are responsive to proposal opportunity requirements and meet organizational needs. Write, edit, and critique proposals as needed.
Act as a resource for policymakers and other nontechnical audience members when they contact NDMC, EPHI with questions about particular research streams.
Give presentations and create presentation materials and policy briefings that describe the implications of research results for decision-makers.
Represent NDMC at relevant conferences and meetings.
Support other team functions as needed.
