Job DescriptionInternal /External Vacancy AnnouncementEthiopian Midwives Association (EMwA) is a legally registered, autonomous, and not-for-profit professional association established in 1992 and re-registered under the new civil society proclamation.
(EMwA) operates in all regions of Ethiopia and the two city administrations by using and works for the quality of midwifery education and care. EMwA has been a member of the International Confederation of Midwives (ICM) since 1993.
The primary goal of EMwA is to contribute towards the reduction of maternal and child mortality and morbidity in Ethiopia to achieve Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The vision of the association is to see every woman, newborn, and their family have access to standard midwifery care. The mission of the association is to promote and enhance the expansion, performance and status of midwifery profession through adapting quality and evidence based practices; adhering to the code of ethics and conduct empowering the professionals.
Role
The Executive Director under the overall control of President of the Association is responsible for the overall leadership, management and representation of the association at national, regional and international level.
S/he is responsible in leading and coordinating the different units and programs in the association.
S/he is also responsible in developing and implementing strategies aiming to promote the organization’s mission and “voice”.
Job Requirements
Education
PhD/MSc/MA/BA/BSc in Midwifery, or PhD/MSc/MA/BA/BSc Public Health, Nutrition, Nursing, Health Informatics, Economics, Project Management
with midwifery background or other related fields with midwifery background.
Experience
2 yrs for PhD, 8 yrs for MSc/MA, and 14 yrs for BSc/BA experience out of which o yrs for PhD, 4 yrs for MSc/MA, and 10 yrs for BSc/BA should be in managerial position(s).
Experience in International and national NGO environment or working in donor-based systems are advantageous.
Extensive knowledge and experience in managing partnership and grants from UN agencies and government organizations like FMOH and regional health office is a benefit.
