Summary of the PositionThe Logistics and Procurement Director will be responsible for overseeing all logistics and procurement requirements of the Ethiochicken, reporting to the Managing Director.
The Logistics and Procurement Director will ensure procurement is in accordance to company policies and standard operating procedures (SOP).
The director is responsible for updating and developing policies and SOPs where necessary to ensure best value for goods purchased.
The director will setup market survey systems for feed raw material procurement, local general procurement and international procurement.
The director will ensure timely delivery of goods both internally and externally via a logistics management system.
As this function is a service function to other departments within the company the director will offer, where necessary, guidance and support to the management and operational staff at country level to ensure timely procurement and delivery of goods at the best value to both internal and external customers.
Duties and Responsibilities
Improve and implement company logistics and procurement management systems
Overall responsibility for delivery of day-old chicks (DOC) and feed requirements for agents (customers)
Overall responsibility for all departmental international procurement inclusive of negotiations, contract manifestation, agreement monitoring, and logistics
Overall responsibility for all departmental local procurement inclusive of negotiations, contract manifestation, agreement monitoring, and logistics
Maintenance of preferred supplier list with routine validation of such
Overall responsibility for feed mills raw material procurement ensuring procurement strategies that result in competitive feed prices at profitable levels
Handling of supplier’s payment for any procured products and logistics
Inventory monitoring system implementation, providing insight on stock levels across the board
Evaluating suppliers, conducting interviews with vendors, negotiating supplier agreements and managing supplier and vendor contracts
Monitor what the company purchases to determine if goods are defective or not meeting performance demands
Develop a logistics and procurement budget
Establish, communicate and implement long-term goals for the department in order to promote effectiveness and efficiency
Conduct logistics and procurement team performance and development plans and appraisals
Be the primary contact for logistics and procurement related questions, training and alignment by all departments
Meet regularly with respective departments to understand and deliver upon their logistics and procurement needs
Share data across respective departments to avoid double work or extra employment on a timely basis
Develops accurate distribution and delivery cluster plans
based on the most efficient and effective strategy
Maintain very minimal differences with financial records and stock
Overall planning, budgeting, and implementation of procurement needs from all departments
Keep track of quality, quantity, stock levels, delivery times, transportation costs and efficiency on cost saving
Manage, motivate and lead logistics team for better achievement
Coordinate with company professionals, external suppliers and experts as required to maintain or improve quality of purchases and overall performance of the department
Develop and improve the standard operational procedures (SOPs) of the procurement and logistics processes on an ongoing basis to continuously improve the workflows and maintain traceability
Keep identifying negotiation areas and opportunities to reduce costs and increase efficiency of services
Keep eye on improving customer satisfaction and overall customer performance by responding to customer issues in coordination with the senior leadership team
Ensure purchased products are the right quality and are transported through the right transporting system, at the right time and are delivered to their destination at the right temperature and right packaging to maintain the quality of the products
Providing daily support, coaching and problem solving to managers reporting to you
Maintain strong interdepartmental communication and develop smooth teamwork through timely and accurate reports, continuous updates and interdepartmental relations
Develop data handling systems that helps the department provide detailed weekly, monthly, quarterly and yearly reports to share with the SLT, Managing Director and shareholders when necessary
Ensure internal and external legal compliance with import requirements and local purchases
Any other responsibilities as directed by the Managing Director
Job Requirements
Competencies
Experience in logistics and procurement;
A strong track record of team development and management;
A high level of competency in the English language in order to negotiate and administer contracts and/or agreements with international suppliers;
Experience of sourcing strategies and inventory monitoring;
Understanding of cost control requirements within each department;
Good understanding of stakeholder management;
Solid analytical and computer skills;
Good communication skills and knowledge of working with all company departments.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree preferably in Commerce/Business, Logistics and Supply Chain
Experience
(8+) Eight year+ experience
