Epicentre is an organisation created by Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) in 1986. We conduct field epidemiology, training, and research activities for MSF interventions. Our activities for populations in precarious situations are led from Uganda, Niger, and France, and through the programs of MSF and others. They mainly concern infectious diseases and undernutrition.
You are looking for a meaningful professional experience?Epicentre is looking for an Epidemiologist to the benefit of the MSF France Operational Center of Paris programs in Uganda. The main purpose of this position is to provide technical support to the field for Monitoring & Evaluation (M&E) of MSF programs and operational research, ensuring compliance with the highest scientific, ethical and regulatory standards is maintained in all field related monitoring activities.
Directly under Epicentre Field Epidemiology and Training Department, you will report to the Coordinator of Monitoring and Research in the Programs. You will work closely with the MSF-OCP Medical Department and Desk, medical and field coordinators, and monitoring and data management field teams, to ensure smooth integration and coordination of program activities and potential research.
Located in Uganda, you will be placed under the authority of MSF-OCP Head of mission for administrative, logistics and security matters.
What you will bring :Skills to perform your main activities:Technical skills:
You will carry out short field assignments, to support and assist the data teams in Uganda, to identify gaps and difficulties in the M&E systems, and to propose and set-up solutions.
You will work closely with the Medical Coordinator to follow up country disease/outbreak epidemiological surveillance trends of public health significance. You will be the one participating in initial assessments/ exploratory missions when needed in cases of emergencies.
Your expertise to coordinate Research studies, will lead you to the implementation of protocols and epidemiological methodology, ensuring all related team members follow them in order to improve Research efficiency.
You will establish and follow a quarterly M&E agenda participating in operational routine reports and organizing/assisting medical staff in preparing epidemiological reports related to health facilities and to Research areas. When needed you will be able to provide on-demand indicators and reports concerning the M&E.
On a regular basis you will provide support to the field teams for data analysis and reporting, assessing needs in data analysis, reporting at site level and issuing recommendations to smooth the reporting process; You will support the monitoring and data management teams in carrying out data analysis in order to respond to MoH or MSF-OCP requests.
Team management skills:
You will be able to develop training on epidemiology and data management. You will be requested to demonstrate your excellent planning and organizational skills; capacity to coordinate activities with other departments
and partners, capacity to integrate into a multi-disciplinary, multi-national, highly motivated, and competent team.
In close coordination with the HR department and following the MSF vision, policies and values, you will be involved in the processes of refining job descriptions, participating to recruitment, trainings, doing performance evaluations, contributing to the development of internal/external communication, for the epidemiological team members.
Your role will be key in order to ensure both the sizing and the amount of knowledge required, to improve epidemiological team members technical capabilities.
International context:
You are willing and able to travel internationally on short notice. You have an excellent level of English (oral, written). As epidemiologist you might contribute to other team activities including training and international missions.
Qualifications :
Educational & Experience: You have a Master’s degree or similar high-level certification in Epidemiology, an excellent knowledge of Stata Software, RedCap and R, and a good management of databases and clinical data.
You have a minimum of 3 years of relevant work experience in field epidemiology, a first experience with MSF/Epicentre is mandatory, and an extensive experience in data management, data analysis, and monitoring & evaluation.
You have demonstrated in your professional background a technical expertise in clinical, operations or health services research related to HIV/AIDS, TB and reproductive or maternal health, or child survival.
You are appreciated for your written and verbal communication skills. You have proven ability to work in an emergency and be flexible, to anticipate deadlines/risk management and the strength of proposal/implementation to propose solutions.

Salary is dependent on two main factors: domicile and experience on the job.
