The Business Development Executive is a role that sits within the broader consultancy family within Education Development Trust. This wider job family fulfills a number of functions for the organisation.
They support our engagement and relationships with clients, helping to develop our profile and ensure we are suitably positioned for new opportunities.
They support technical leadership on business development for both large-scale and consultancy opportunities. They support delivering commercial work through the consultancy team.
They also provide both generalist expertise for the development of our education solutions and Intellectual Property.
Specific job objectives:
Develop and manage a client engagement plan that supports the sub-Saharan Africa
Regional Growth strategy.
Support client-relationship-management nationally and across the region, helping to build strong relationships with key clients, including through preparing and supporting senior colleagues with their engagements.
Lead the project management of the SSA Regional business growth strategy.
Support the management of the regional business development pipeline.
Support positioning and preparation for formal pre-procurement, procurement and
mobilisation phases of new large-scale opportunities – this will include working with
research and marcomms colleagues.
Work effectively within multi-disciplinary bid teams including remote teams based in
Reading, UK.
Where required, support aspects of the bidding process for new opportunities, including writing high-quality bid text, contributing to solution design, and working with partners and internal stakeholders e.g. colleagues from Business Services, Commercial, Resourcing.
Develop and maintain effective working relationships with key high-level internal
stakeholders, e.g. the SSA Regional Director, Research and Consultancy colleagues,
Business Service leads, etc;
Support the Research and Consultancy Team or SSA delivery team as agreed with your
line manager.
Agree and implement a personal development plan to help develop key business
development consultant competencies.
Scope:
The post holder will be based in the Nairobi office.
They may be required to travel nationally and internationally as required for opportunity development or delivery purposes.
The role is likely to involve working outside of standard work hours, especially during the formal procurement phase
of new opportunities.
Person specification:
Knowledge
Essential:
Knowledge of programme design or delivery,
particularly for complex projects
Knowledge of the Kenyan and wider sub-Saharan Africa market, including key clients for Education Development Trust
Knowledge of key client relationship management principles
Degree level qualification (or equivalent experience)
Desirable:
Strong understanding of the education sector in Kenya/more widely in SSA
Knowledge of procurement processes
Master’s degree in an appropriate field

Essential
Experience of at least one of (more than one desirable): project management, solution
design, strategy, change management, organisation design, process improvement, Client Relationship Management, partnering, stakeholder management
Experience of working in teams
Experience of developing and maintaining effective working relationships with internal and external stakeholders
Desirable:
Experience of working in an education environment in sub-Saharan Africa
