Job Role
  • A School Maintenance Officer is responsible for the upkeep and maintenance of a school's physical facilities, including buildings, grounds, and equipment.

    Responsibilities
  • Inspect school buildings and grounds regularly to identify maintenance needs
  • Perform routine maintenance tasks, such as changing light bulbs, repairing plumbing, and painting
  • Coordinate with contractors and vendors to schedule repairs and maintenance work
  • Manage and maintain the school's heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) system
  • Conduct regular inspections of fire safety equipment and systems, such as fire alarms and sprinklers
  • Oversee the maintenance and repair of the school's vehicles and equipment, such as lawn mowers and snow blowers
  • Respond to emergency maintenance requests, such as power outages and flooding
  • Maintain an inventory of supplies and equipment necessary for maintenance work
  • Collaborate with other school staff, such as administrators and teachers, to ensure that maintenance work does not disrupt educational activities
  • Manage the school's waste and recycling programs.
  • Organize and perform small construction improvement projects as directed (eg. minor landscaping,paths, garden walls, basic carpentry and concrete work as required)
  • Obtaining quotes from suppliers / contractors and ensuring contractor work is satisfactorily completed.
  • Assist and arrange outside contractors including ensuring appropriate induction and registration /certificates.
  • Assist and coordinate maintenance, both reactive and proactive, for all facilities, plant and equipment.
  • Ensure appropriate registration and maintenance of all equipment and machinery.
  • Co-ordinate all scheduled compliance works (eg. tag and test of equipment, emergency lighting) and planning school holiday period programs of works.
  • Conduct inspections and risk assessments for facilities, plant and equipment as required.
  • Maintain records for hazardous and non-hazardous chemicals for the worksite and ensure safe use and storage.
  • Assist to conduct inspections of the workplace to help discover unsafe of unsatisfactory conditions and practices, and ensure the observance of workplace health and safety standards.
  • Assist with the running of events as required, particularly with setup and pack-down of equipment as directed by the school management.

    The Key Performance Indicator (KPI) for the school maintenance office include:
  • Preventive Maintenance: This KPI measures the officer's ability to perform routine maintenance tasks, such as cleaning, repairing, and replacing equipment, to prevent breakdowns and reduce the need for costly repairs.
  • Response Time: This KPI measures the officer's ability to respond to maintenance requests
    quickly and efficiently to minimize disruptions to educational activities.
  • Budget Management: This KPI measures the officer's ability to manage the maintenance budget effectively, including cost analysis, budget forecasting, and cost reduction strategies.
  • Safety Compliance: This KPI measures the officer's ability to ensure compliance with safety regulations and standards, such as fire safety codes and hazardous waste disposal regulations.
  • Energy Efficiency: This KPI measures the officer's ability to implement and maintain energy-efficient systems and equipment, resulting in cost savings for the school.
  • Work Order Completion: This KPI measures the officer's ability to complete work orders within the specified time-frame and budget.
  • Customer Satisfaction: This KPI measures the satisfaction of school staff and students with the maintenance services provided.

    Requirements and Qualifications
  • A Bachelor's Degree in a relevant field
  • Minimum of 2 years of working experience in similar role
  • Proven ability to work unsupervised, meet deadlines and set priorities.
  • Demonstrate professionalism and confidentiality appropriately.
  • Safe use of a range of machinery and equipment.
  • Proactive mindset and ability to implement routines to ensure ongoing upkeep of facilities
  • Detailed knowledge of maintenance and storage of motorized equipment.
  • Workplace Health and Safety, particularly requirements of using hazardous items of plant, equipment and chemical.
  • Possess excellent organizational and problem-solving skills
  • Knowledgeable about safety regulations and possess.
