Org. Setting and ReportingECA's mission is to deliver ideas and actions for an empowered and transformed Africa; informed by the 2030 Agenda and Agenda 2063. This position is in the Publications, Conference and Knowledge Management Division (PCKMD), Publications and Conference Management Section (PCMS) of the Economic Commission for Africa (ECA), in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. The incumbent works under the overall guidance of the Chief of PCMS, and the direct supervision of the Chief of the French Translation and Editing Unit (FTEU).
ResponsibilitiesWithin delegated authority, the French translator will be responsible for the following duties:
Translate, subject to revision, documents covering a broad range of subjects dealt with by the ECA, i.e., social, economic, financial, administrative, scientific, and technical.
Service meetings of the Commission and those of the Sub-Regional Offices as part of a team and translate their report subject to revision.
Identify new terminology material and submits it for consideration to revisers.
Collects and analyzes data to identify trends or patterns and provides insights through graphs, charts, tables and reports using data visualization methods to enable data-driven planning, decision-making, presentation and reporting.
Performs other related duties as required.

Education
A first-level degree from a university or an institution of equivalent status.
Candidates for this position must have passed the relevant United Nations Competitive Examination for Translators/Précis-Writers or the relevant combined United Nations Competitive Examination for Translators/Précis-writers, Editors, and Verbatim Reporters; this requirement will be waived for candidates who passed one of the relevant United Nations competitive examinations held before 2017 for Editors or Verbatim Reporters, subject to an assessment test to be conducted by the hiring manager as part of the Inspira selection process.
Successful completion of both degree and non-degree programs in data analytics, business analytics or data science programs is an advantage.
Job - Specific Qualification
Passing the relevant Language Competitive Examination (LCE) in French is required.
Work Experience
A minimum of two years of experience in translation is required.
Translation experience in the United Nations Common System or international organizations is desirable.
Experience of translation in a broad range of subjects dealt with by the United Nations Common System or international organizations (social, economic, financial, administrative, scientific, and technical), with a recognized specialization in a particular substantive, technical or administrative area, is desirable.
Experience in data analytics or related area is desirable.
Languages
English and French are the working languages of ECA. For the post advertised, a perfect command of French, which must be the candidate’s main language is required. An excellent knowledge of English and knowledge of another official language of the United Nations, as tested by the United Nations competitive examination for French translators/précis-writers, are required.
