Org. Setting and ReportingThe Economic Commission for Africa's (ECA) mission is to deliver ideas and actions for an empowered and transformed Africa; informed by the 2030 Agenda and Agenda 2063.
The mission will be guided by ECA's five strategic directions which are: advancing ECA's position as a premier knowledge institution that builds on its unique position and privilege to bring global solutions to the continent's problems and take local solutions to the continent; developing macroeconomic and structural policy options to accelerate economic diversification and job creation; designing and implementing innovative financing models for infrastructure, and for human, physical and social assets for a transforming Africa; contributing solutions to regional and transboundary challenges, with a focus on peace security and social inclusion as an important development nexus; advocating Africa's position at the global level and developing regional responses as a contribution to global governance issues.
These positions are located in the Facilities Management Section (FMS) of the Division of Administration (DoA) at the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa at Addis Ababa. The incumbent will work under the general guidance of the Chief of Building Management & Maintenance Unit (BMMU) and direct supervision of the Sr. Broadcast and Conference Operator.
ResponsibilitiesWithin delegated authority, the Special System Operator will be responsible for the following duties:
To operate the conference system equipment:• Check all system equipment for proper operation in a conference room before & after a meeting;
• Set up a conference system before a conference according to the request of clients;
• Do proper and quality Audio recordings;
• Do quality video recordings and editing;
• Run conferences technically as smoothly as possible;
• Solve minor problems related to audio/video system arising during a conference;
Provide support to clients related to conference equipment:• To be always prepared for better client satisfaction;
• Explain and show to clients how to use the systems to their satisfaction;
• To be always ready to assist clients during conferences to their technical needs which may arise at any time;
• To liaise with immediate supervisors for clients' needs as quickly as possible;
To assist in the maintenance of conference equipment:• Strict adherence to the daily operational and maintenance manual;
• Study equipment and maintenance manuals;
• Accomplish task following the specified steps in the manuals;
• Planning and organizing for scheduled conferences ahead of time;
• To organize and label equipment for easy access and facilitated usage;
• Report to the Electronics Technician immediately
when a major problem happens during a conference;
• Perform other related duties as and when requested by the supervisor;
• To receive daily technical work instructions related to running;
• Assists with the collection and analysis of data as well as preparation of data presentations and reports for information sharing, responding to queries, knowledge management, planning and decision making.
• Assists with visualizations and updating information material such as web pages or brochures.
Competencies• Professionalism: Ability to apply engineering/architectural skills and to participate in engineering projects, including preparation of cost estimates, research of data and preparing graphs. Ability to identify and analyze engineering data of significant depth and complexity.

EducationHigh school diploma or equivalent is required. General training in electronic equipment and their operation is required. Specific Training on operation of audio/video conference system equipment is also highly desirable.
Work Experience
A minimum of four years of progressively responsible experience in operating and running of audio/video conference equipment is required. The minimum years of relevant experience is reduced to one year for candidates who possess a first-level university degree or higher. Exposure to UN environment is an advantage.
Languages
English and French are the official working languages of the United Nations. For the post advertised, fluency in oral and written in English languages is required.
