Job SummaryThe Communications Specialist will support both internal and external communications efforts and will contribute to the content development of project outreach materials, including learning, success stories, social media postings, presentations, photography, events management, as well as media relations.
Key Tasks, Duties and ResponsibilitiesThe Communications Specialist is responsible for:
Communication strategy development and executionDevelop and execute ENA’s Regional Institutional and Program communication strategy and update it regularly, as applicable;
Develop the annual communications work plan based on the strategy;
Craft messages (case studies, one-pagers, webinar, tweets, LinkedIn posts etc.) to disseminate learning and results to different stakeholders, implementing partners, the
Government of Kenya and others);
Provide leadership during programme planning communications meetings and actively participate in the projects Communications Working Groups and execute action items that come out of these meetings;
Facilitate Communication between ENA’s Country Offices by channeling up lessons learned to ensure scalability of lessons in different projects and programs where ENA has a footprint
Stakeholder Management
Build strategic partnerships with key local, regional, and international media outlets to ensure visibility and profiling of ENA and its programs;
Manage and update the stakeholder’s contacts database
Coordinate with program staff to gather information for writing programmatic communications including manuals, graphics, articles, success and impact stories that offer analytical storytelling
Build the capacity of and provide communications support to the ENA team
Share appropriate content with ENA’s Partners to be distributed on the internal newsletter, public website and social media
Maintain a comprehensive database of communications consultants and suppliers who can offer niche communications services
Content Creation and Management
Guide and oversee the production of institutional and programmatic communication materials;
Manage and update ENA’s website and social media platforms
Edit project reporting deliverables such as quarterly and annual reports to ensure communication of ENA’s progress, learning, and results;
Monitor media reports on ENA’s programs and activities
Event Management and Marketing
Draft communications collateral for events e.g. (manuals, press releases, key messages, success stories, talking points,
graphics, etc.);
Lead and coordinate organization of ENA’s events
Provide leadership in marketing communications for the ENA Hub.
Qualifications
Academic:
Degree in Communication, Journalism, Public Relations
Master’s degree in relevant field is an added advantage
Professional:
Desktop publishing
Experience
5 years leading a communication department or experience in strategic communication, report writing, event management, content creation and distribution
Strong hands-on experience in external and/or internal communication in a busy NGO
Strong aptitude and understanding of the communication aspects of stakeholder
Experience in implementing communication strategies
Professional Membership
Public Relations Society of Kenya (PRSK) or
Marketing Society of Kenya (MSK) or
Kenya Professional Communicators Association (KPCA)
Skills
Digital and Social Media Expertise: Proficiency in leveraging digital and social media platforms for effective communication and brand promotion
Strategic Communication: The ability to develop and execute strategic communication plans that align with organizational goals and objectives
Media Relations: Developing and maintaining positive relationships with media outlets, journalists, and influencers is vital
Ethical Conduct: A commitment to upholding professional ethics and integrity in all communication activities, including confidentiality, accuracy, and respect for diverse perspectives.
Able to operate in a performance-driven environment with minimum supervision
