DRC NGO Monitoring and Evaluation Internships in Kampala
The Danish Refugee Council (DRC) is a private, independent, humanitarian organization working on all aspects of the refugee cause in more than 30 countries throughout the world.
The aim of DRC is to protect refugees and internally displaced persons (IDPs) against persecution and to promote durable solutions to the problems of forced migration, on the basis of humanitarian principles and human rights.
DRC works in accordance with the UN Conventions on Refugees and the Code of Conduct for the ICRC and NGOs in Disaster Relief.
In Uganda, DRC works in North, North-Western, South-Western and North-Eastern regions in a range of emergency/development situations offering support to refugees and host communities.
The aim is to save lives by providing protection, offering humanitarian assistance, and creating livelihoods.
We are looking for a highly qualified and recently graduated student with Bachelors degree in the fields of Social Sciences, statistics, M&E, Geoinformatics and IT to strengthen our MEAL team in Kampala.
We are looking for a candidate with a strong sense of organization and logical order – and with proven skills in quantitative and qualitative methods and approached to M&E, strong skills in Microsoft Excel (tabular data management).
The objective of this position is to strengthen DRC’s MEAL capacity in Uganda – through design and data management support to the MEAL team in Uganda.
Key Responsibilities
Support MEAL staff members in setting up systems for program M&E;
Assist with the design and development of forms and questionnaires for data collection and analysis;
Assist with data collection and analysis;
Assist with research and writing or editing;
Assist with data management and cleaning, and quality control;
Assist with collection and
Support the team through various administrative duties.
Provided the candidate has a background in Geography and Geoinformatics – and skills in Geographic Information Systems (GIS) – the candidate will also be tasked in the first instance with simple ad-hoc map production.
Daily ad-hoc practical support to the MEAL team on tasks including data cleaning, printing and copying of documents, preparation of meetings, calendar planning etc.
Undertake any further duties as the line manager sees fit. The position duties are flexible to a degree to allow the candidate to develop skills they personally identify. This can be arranged in discussions with the line manager.

Recently completed Master’s Degree/Post Graduate Degree within Social Sciences, M&E, Statistics, IT, Geography or Geoinformatics
Strong and proven computer skills (especially Microsoft Word and Excel – and secondly PowerPoint and Outlook) is a must as these skills will be applied in document quality checking, formatting and drafting;
Have advanced quantitative and qualitative skills, including knowledge of statistical programs (SPSS, STATA, and Nvivo)
Full proficiency in spoken and written English;
Strong sense of logical order and file management – and continuous drive to maintain clear overview.
Ability to manage diverse activities and to meet deadlines required; flexibility to changing situations and priorities desired.
Demonstrate initiative and ability to work independently and as a member of a team to coordinate and/or lead the efforts to effectively meet M&E needs.
Team worker – interested to learn more about refugee response in Uganda.
Preferable:
Demonstrated writing skills (narrative reports, proposal documents);
Demonstrated skills in geoinformatics (Geographic Information Systems)
demonstrate quantitative and qualitative skills, including knowledge of statistical programs
