Overall Purpose of the Role:The purpose of this post is to provide day to day management, psychosocial support (PFA) and related activities in Ifo, Hagadera and Dagahaley Camps in Dadaab. In particular, the person is responsible for screening for SGBV for new arrivals at the profiling desk, offering psychological first aid, triaging of SGBV at the SGBV field offices where necessary, referring all identified cases to relevant offices and partners for support and maintaining daily contact with the community level para-counsellors and community structures.
S/he will work and liaise closely with the Protection assistants and Officers-PSS, MEAL on documentation of programme activities as per the donor requirements.
Responsibilities: GBV Screening and Psychosocial Support:Conduct S/GBV screening at the profiling desks targeting new arrivals and offer Psychological first aid to those in distress prior to their referral
Identify the various services needed by the new arrivals and link them for support i.e. medical, PSS, legal and security
Closely working with the protection officer GBV response and the finance officer, issue cash assistance to the identified beneficiaries and follow up for the services needed/the POCs have been referred for
The staff can be deployed to the SGBV field offices to conduct triaging and link the POCs to the protection assistants for case management and or link non SGBV cases to other agencies for support as necessary
Provide comprehensive psychosocial counseling to SGBV and non SGBV survivors focused on the survivor centered approaches at the safe spaces upon deployment
Conduct and coordinate group sessions- therapy, psychoeducation, peer to peer sessions in collaboration with the case managers.
Where necessary, conduct Menstrual hygiene and management education as well as management of the Dignity kits
Ensure all work with SGBV survivors is confidential and that ethical practices are observed.
Participate in the interpretation of the analyzed data on trends and work with GBV Team to disseminate information to all relevant stakeholders.
Ensure proper follow up, documentation and support of GBV clients referred for other interventions in the integrated programme approach.
Coordination and networking including community engagement:
Maintain and strengthen existing networks, community structures and other service providers at the camp level, to ensure that survivors and new arrivals receive quality services and support both at the agency levels(referral pathway) and at the community level.
Conduct sensitization, dialogue and mediation sessions with the wider population
Work in close collaboration with the GBV officer and GBV assistants to ensure ongoing needs of new arrivals especially at-risk groups, women and girls are identified and met directly or through referral
Effective Referral and linkage of GBV cases
keeping records and following up to ensure cases reach the respective service providers
Support the GBV officer and GBV assistants, in dissemination of relevant information during the Community forums and meetings.
Conduct outreaches with the prevention team and support in awareness on SGBV response e.g. calendar events like World Mental Health day,16 DoA etc.
Monitoring and Evaluation:
Assist in preparing daily, monthly, quarterly and annual reports, progress notes, treatment plans and referrals on time
Ensure that the client documents and information are well captured, updated, stored safely and reported on a regular basis according to data protection /sharing protocols
Use appropriate data collection tools and submit assessments and reports in a timely and accurate manner and where necessary work closely with the refugee staff to ensure quality reporting
Ensure HAP Principles and CHS is mainstreamed in the day to day project implementation
Attend relevant training forums relevant to the job
Assist with any other related activities as deemed necessary by the supervisor
Experience and Technical Competencies:
Minimum of 2 years work experience in providing psychosocial counseling in a refugee context
MUST be a Somali speaker and coming from Dadaab/Fafi Sub counties
Knowledge and skills on computer, GBVIMS, GBV, Child protection and case management tools is an added advantage
Good team player; able to take direction and work collaboratively with others.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including empathic listening.
Ability to communicate in a highly professional manner with clients, community members and professional partners.
Able to complete required reporting and documentation within the set deadlines.
Highly motivated, creative, and compassionate person who is dedicated to ensuring that models of best practice are utilized.
Able to uphold high ethical and professional standards including confidentiality.
Problem solving and conflict resolution skills and ability to work in a challenging environment.
Ability to promote the values of equality, non-discrimination, and human rights for all.
Education:
Diploma in Psychology, Social Work or other Social Science related field.
Languages:
Fluency in written and spoken Somali is a must
Fluency in written and spoken English, Swahili, Arabic is essential
