Are you an experienced emergency practitioner looking for a challenging new role? Looking to work with and for affected people in ensuring their rights are respected and protected in crisis situations?
Danish Refugee Council, one of the world’s leading humanitarian NGOs, is currently looking for new colleagues to join our Emergency, Protection, Assistance and Coordination Team, a multifunctional team of senior Emergency Response Practioners deployable within 72 hours to support DRC Country Offices respond to emergency situations.
Overall purpose of the role:
Provide temporary / daily work support to the implementation of field and desk activities for DRC MEAL and/or Programmes in field locations in Mandera / Garissa / Turkana.
This may include data collection, data entry, conducting surveys, assisting with registration, assisting with community mobilization and organizing meetings, and assisting with organizing and documenting Focus Group Discussions.
Key responsibilities:
Under the supervision of the Manager / Officer, the Daily Worker will be responsible for:
Using tablet/app platforms or paper forms, collecting data as per the requirements and the clarification give on the data enumerators training.
Contact and interview / register respondents based on lists provided by the Manager / Officer
Collect and accurately record responses on questionnaires/mobile application provided by DRC
Ensure that questionnaires have been thoroughly checked and completed
Submit completed questionnaires and other equipment (mobile/tablet) used in fieldwork to data collection when data collection is completed
Manually enter data from paper forms or other documents into excel or word file templates, as per the guidance and supervision of the Manager / Officer
Participate in briefings / de-briefings, introductory or other sessions as required, and provide honest, clear feedback on challenges and successes.
Work according to the time-frames and deadlines provided by the Manager / Officer
Under the supervision of the Manager / Officer, assist with community engagement or mobilization activities, such as awareness sessions, focus group discussions and distributions
Deliver awareness messages
Travel to field locations as required by activity / Manager / Officer
Treat all data collected / discussed with beneficiaries and DRC staff with confidentiality and sensitivity
Treat community members and other key stakeholders with respect
Attend and actively participate in trainings, inductions
Experience and Technical Competencies:
At least 6 months of experience of humanitarian work (UN/NGO/government).
Previous experience with electronic or mobile data collection and/or data entry.
At least one year of experience in a relevant sector (Livelihoods, Livestock, Agriculture, Protection, WASH, nutrition, health, DRR)
Ability to use smartphones and PC (word, excel).
Experience in data collection, administering questionnaires and conducting interviews, data collection and data entry.
Experience in collecting data using mobile/tablets to collect data is an advantage.
Familiarity with DRC implementing areas
Familiarity with the SPHERE Project and Minimum Standards
Commitment to humanitarian principles and values
Education:
Grade 8 or above necessary tertiary education (university degree) in relevant subject (social work, health, agriculture etc) preferred
Languages:
Fluent skills in speaking, reading and writing Somali.
Excellent skills in speaking, reading and writing English.

Conditions:
Salary and conditions will be in accordance with the Danish Refugee Council terms of employment for National staff.
Availability: September 2022
Duty station: Mandera / Garissa / Turkana.
