Building an Avocado and Sesame Value Chain Strategic Alliance
On behalf of the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), GIZ supports the nationwide activities of the Ethiopian Government in the field of sustainable land management.
Through capacity building and further training, GIZ qualifies the partners to effectively communicate sustainable practices in the districts (woredas) so that they are increasingly and successfully implemented by the farmers.
The focus is on advising on improving the legal framework for sustainable land management and supporting the Ethiopian Agricultural Advisory Service and the decentralized agricultural offices.
These implement the state program at various levels, from the region, through the districts, to the communities.
The technical training of experts as well as the strengthening of state institutions in the implementation processes. The advice covers technical aspects, such as soil and water conservation, as well as agricultural production methods, supplemented by improved consulting methods.
The promotion of value chain development, private sector engagement and farmer business school are of particular importance.
With develoPPP.de, the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) promotes private sector involvement where entrepreneurial opportunities and development policy need to be met.
Applications for the develoPPP.de program are registered companies in Germany and the EU, which make a substantial, financially representable contribution of at least 50 per cent of the total project costs in the joint projects. develoPPP.de projects are based on the development policy guidelines of the BMZ.
All projects must have a clear developmental impact with certain environmental and social standards. The develoPPP.de projects flank the technical projects of German development cooperation in OECD-DAC countries and are
implemented in close cooperation. The Strategic Alliance "Building an Avocado and Sesame Value Chain in Ethiopia" aims to create local value and build a market-oriented, diversified and competitive avocado and sesame sector in Ethiopia.
